ROPE-CLAMPS.
Patented Jan.4, 1876.
MfmSSes )9? ",PETERS, PNUTOLYTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE LEVI H. PAGE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR To MARK CAMPBELL, OF
sAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROPE-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 17l,738, dated January 4, 1876; application filed November 10,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI H. PAGE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Rope-Clamps, of which the following is a specification:
In the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, Figure l is an elevation showing the clamp attached to the end of a rope. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the clamp, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the jaws.
The same letters are employed in all the figures in the-indication of identical parts.
The clamping-jaws are formed by two semitubes, A and B, formed with teeth on their inner faces to hold the rope and prevent its slipping out. They are formed alike, except that-one has two lugs, B, and the other one, with holes through them to receive the pin 0, which passes through them to form a hingejoint. This pin may be removed to attach the end of the rope by placing it on one jaw, when the other is laid upon it and the pin inserted. An inclined groove iscut in solid ends of the clamping-jaws, above the hinge, to receive the wedge D, as shown at A B The wedge is formed on the end of the spirally-threaded stem D, on which is a nut,
D restingagainst a washer. E is a swivelring on the end of the stem D, and Fa hook on the ring for attachment of the weight to be lifted, or whatever else the rope is to be fastened to. When the rope is inserted between the serrated jaws, and they are connected by the pin, by turning the nut D the wedge D acting against the inclined faces of the recesses A E the jaws will be forced against, and the teeth into, the rope, holding it firmly.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a rope-clamp, the hinged jaws A and B, in combination with the wedge D, acting against the opposed faces on one side of the hinge, to compress the rope between the jaws on the other side thereof, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the hinged jaws A and'B, the wedge D, threaded stem D nut D and swivel-rin g E, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
L. H. PAGE.
