To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J oHN MATHEsoN, of the city and State of New York, have invented an arranging for a refrigerator and for a space for hanging large quarters of meat, aswell as for hanging the smaller joints and pieces usually displayed at butchersvstalls.

My improvement relates to an arrangement of ice-box, yard, and hookrails, whereby"the usual extent of hook-rails is provided, and the ice-box and stall inclosure are so arranged that a yard is formed around which quarters, and heavy pieces of meat can' be hung, and Where there is space for cutting up such meat, and for opening and closing the door of the refrigerator without interfering with the pas sage-way or aisle in front of the stalls.

In the drawing, Figure l is a plan of the Astall complete, and Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same.. 4 y I The refrigerator is made of a size suitable for the space occupied by the entire stall, al being the back ofthe stall; b, one end thereof; and c, the other end of said stall. ' i forming a yard between one side of the refrigerator and the end c of the stall, and the door g of the refrigerator is at that side so as to open into the yard j'. At the end c of the stall a vertical post, h, is erected, to which the partition at the end cfof the stall is connected, and said yard f is also inclosed at the back afand there are rails k laround the two sides of thisyard, at 0r near the tops of the partitions, and said rails contain hooks c', upon which quarters or large pieces of meat are hung at a convenient height for handling or for cutting` up, and hence these are out of the way of persons passing along the passage- Way or aisle in front of the stalls.

The post h sustains the rails m n 0 at one end, and the refrigerator sustains the other ends, such rails being bolted to place, and containing the ordinary meat-hooks, and the upper rails are placed out farther than' the lower ones, so that the joints or pieces of meat hang clear of each other. The short rail t u may be secured to the front of the refrigerator. The braces or supports s may be used to sustain the rails at the middle portions.

The market-stall, arranged in the before-described luanner, is much more .compact than those before made, and it is more convenient, and possesses greater capacity for meat than the stands heretofore made. l

I claim as my invention- An improved butchers stall, consisting of refrigerator d, hook-rails t u attached thereto, rails m n o, braces s s, post h, partitions and rails k l, hooks Mi, and yard f, the whole being constructed and arranged substantially in the manner and for the purposes specified.
