Description

F. MANN Filed May 29, 1928 .june EL ggg@ PORTABLE MERCHANDISE DISPLAY CONTAINER Patented time lll, i929.
' Jenner. MANN, or rossmann, oraison.
Application filed May 919,
My invention relates to portable display bins or containers especially designed for containing candy, crackers and like Agoods, to be sold in bulli.
The object of my invention is to provide a display bin, or container, which will malre a mass display of the goods being sold, thus to impress the customer that the `goods are 'constantly kept fresh by the large amount sold thereof, and that the goods sold to the customer are the same as those displayed in mass in the container. In that way the freshness of `goods displayed serves to stimulate and suggest to the customer the desire to purchase, according to my experience. @n the other hand, where mass display is not maintained in the container, as where the container shows only a small quantity of the goods on hand, the customer may get the impression that he is being served from a leftover remnant of the goods;
A further object of my invention is to provide a display bin or container so arranged that the front end of the container will always hold a considerable mass of the goods.
A further object of my invention is to provide a diplay bin, or container, in which the mass display of the goods at the front end of the bin may be readily maintained by simplyl lifting the rear end of the container so as to tipfit forward. and cause the (goods to move forward by gravity into and fill the front end of the container. container adapted to be arranged in groups, side by side, within a show-case.
A further object of my invention is to provide a container so arranged that besidesfulfilling the objects above enumerated it will at the same time provide a space underneath the container-that is between the bottom of the container and the bottom of the show-case or other supporting surface on which the container is set-adapted to serve as a store room for a reserve supply of the goods displayed in the container; or for storing' packages of definite quantities-for example one pound or two pound boxes of candy-so that when the customer wishes to purchase such definite quantity he may be supplied from the paclages stored under the container. I attain my said object in a portable merchandise display container compri sing a body having a bottom and sides, one end of the container being arranged to provide a display pocket of substantial depth below the bottom of the container, and adapted to hold a large Furthermore, to provide a 19.28.v Serial NO..281,5 10.
amount of the goods, and thus provide `theJ mass display above 'referred to. Legs are provided at the opposite endof the container, said pocket portion of the container and said legs being arranged yto support the bottom of the container a substantial distance above the I surface on which the container is set, vso as to provide room under the container in which to store a reserve supply of the goods. The front end of the container is covered with a glass.v Y' v rlhe above described and features of my invention and the details of construction, and utility, of my improved display bin, or container, are hereinafter fully described with reference to the accompanying' drawings.
lin the drawings:
Fig. l shows a perspective View of display container illustrating the details 'of con# struction v 2 shows a central longitudinal secf tion of my display container, representing` the same as filled with globular goods, for example, candy, and illustrates the distribib tion thereof;
Fig'. 3 shows in a fragmentary section of a modification'in the front of my display container toV adapt the same for beinef placed in a show case or other housing having a vertical front; and
4t shows ina view similar to'Fig. 2 illustrating a further modifica-tion of my invention; namely, the top and rear end of the container are closed by a coiff'er havingV a hinged section. i
Referring),` first to Figs. l and 2 inclusive, my invention consists of a body preferably elorligate, composed of a bottom 7) and sides, c, c l i ylhe front or display end of the body is arranged to provide a display pocket e of sub'- stantial depth below the bottom b. This pocket e is provided to hold a considerable mass of the goods contained in the container, so as to effect mass display thereof as mentioned. The front of the container is covered by a. glass f which is removable. The rear end ofthe container is provided with legs g correspondinpa in height with the depth of thewalls of the pocket e, so'as to support the bottom b of the containerl a substantial distance above the bottom of the show Case, or other housing, or surface, on which my container is set.
As shown in Figs. l and 2 of the drawings other incidental I the top of my container is left open, also the rear end. The bot-tom of the rear end is inl clined upward as at h, and thus the container may normally be kept filled with the goods as indicated by z' in Fig. 2, with the goods atthe front end of the container always making mass display as apparent from Fig. 2.
The upwardly inclined bottom section /L facilitates taking some of the goods from the container from time to time in making sales.
In other words, the rear end of the bottom of the container 1s somewhat raised and slopes downwardly inward to facilitate for example candy being taken from the container by a scoop or the like.
By reason of the described construction of my container quite a portion of the goods stored in the rear end of the container may be removed without substantially affecting the mass display of the goods at the front end of the container.
If preferred,or deemed moreconvenient with respect to thel shelving, or show case, in which my container shall be placed the front end thereof may be made vertical as shown in F ig; 3, but in other respects the construc-v tion is just the same as above described, therefore the parts are designated by similar letters, and the pocket of this modified construction is designated e and the glass f.
The frontgof my container as illustrated by' Figs. l and 2 is specially designed to be placed in show cases having sloping fronts whereas the modified construction illustrated by Fig. 3 is adapted for show cases having vertical fronts. y
In Fig. 4C I have shown av further 1nodiiication of my invention, when to be used on a counter unprotected by a show case or other housing. In order to meet this situation, I have provided a cover preferably of glass, for the top of my container secured in grooves formed in the sides of the container. The cover y' includes a section i, hinged as at c, which may or may not be ofglass. This secgoods to be taken out, without disturbing the display portion.
Other variations in details not affecting the principle of my invention may be made as deemed expedient by the manufacturer.
I claim: y l
l. A portable merchandise display-container comprising.y a body having a bottom and sides, one end of the container arranged to provide a display pocket of substantial depth below the bottom of the container and adapted to make al mass display of the goods, legs provided at the opposite end of the container and said pocket-portion of the container and said legs arranged to support the bottom of the container a substantial distance above the surface on which the container is set.
2. A portable merchandisev display-conw tainer comprising, a body having aV bottom and sides., one end of the container arranged to provide a display pocket ofv substantial depth below the bottom of the container and adapted to make a mass display of the goods, legs provided at the opposite end ofthe container, said pocket-portion of the container and said legs arranged to support the bottom of the container substantialdistance above the surface on which the container is` set, a glass covering the front end of the body and the opposite end of the bottom of the body being inciined upward.
