Description

M y 1929. s. GROSSER COMB; CONTAINING SPRAYER Filed June 1927 Patented May 28, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEFFI GROSSER, OF MOB.OSTRAVA, CZEGHOSLOVAKIA;
COMB, con'rnrnme srnAYnR.
Application filed June 2, 1927, Serial No. 196,131, and in Czechoslovakia and Germany June 2, 1926.
Combs, brushes and similar toilet articles, the backs of which are hollowed in order to provide a reservoir for containing liquids, such asperfume and the like, are well known. These known arrangements have the disadvantage that the liquid will leak from'the reservoir and evaporate, thus causing considerable loss, especially where perfume is used.
The present invention aims to overcome the disadvantage and consists in the provision of a reservoir with which is associated a sprayor in the back of the toilet article. The sprayer contains a hollow piston rod and a sprayer nozzle or blast pipe'at the side of the piston rod handle.
In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown in a constructional form by way of example. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section and view of a comb, Fig. 2 a section of the sprayer nozzle on a larger scale.
The back 1 of the comb which has solid teeth 2 is hollowed and possesses at one end an aperture 2 for the sprayer pump, while the other end comprises a closed bottom 3, so that a reservoir'tor the fluid to be sprayed is formed.
The comb of the present invention can be made of a size which will permit of it being carried in the pocket of the owner and in order that the perfume in the reservoir 1 may be sprayed there is provided a piston construction. This structure consists of a tube 3 extending from the end 2 to a point adjacent the closed end of the reservoir and is constructed intermediate its ends as at 3 to form a valve seat for a purpose which will presently appear. Slidable inthe enlarged portion of the tube 3 is a piston 4, the head and rod of which are formed with a longitudinal passage 6*, the outer end of which terminates in a head 8 to which is attached the nozzle 6 extending in the direction of the teeth 2 of the comb. A screw threaded plug 7 is mounted in the nozzle 6 which aids in breaking up the liquid into a fine spray as it is being forced by pressure through the outlet of the nozzle. The ball 10 in the head 8 closes the passage 6 until the pressure of the liquid forces the same against the projecting pin 12 of the plug 7 whereupon the liquid will pass around the ball valve and through the nozzle. The head 8 carries a ring'member or finger-piece 5 which may be employed to manipulate the piston when it is desired to spray liquid from the reservoir. By first moving the piston outwardly, a quantity of the liquid is drawn into the enlarged portion of the tube 3* past a small ball valve 11 which normally rests on the seat 3' and then by a subsequent inward pressure upon the piston through the medium of the ring 5, the pressure of the liquid then in the enlarged portion of the tube 3* causes a positive' closing of the valve '11 and said liquid is forced outwardly through the passage 6 and into the nozzle.
The sprayer can beconstructed in diiierent-ways. Instead of the comb, a brush or another toilet article may be provided. A combined toilet article may be provided having atone side a comb and at the other side a brush. A little mirror, a nail file and so on can also be provided in suitable pockets formed in the article.-
By this arrangement, a very practicable and controllable toilet article is provided, having the advantages that it occupies a space no larger than that required by an ordinary comb or brush in a ladys pocket or bag, and at the same time is capable of performing a double function, namely, the combing and moistening of. the hair.
, This arrangement is particularly practicable for the modern styles of hair-dressing of ladies, so that they are able to arrange the hair easily when away from home.
I claim:
A comb having solid teeth and a back hollowed out to provide a liquid reservoir formed with an opening only at one end thereof, a tube extending from said opening into said reservoir for containing a portion o1 the liquid therein, a'hollow piston rod slidable in said tube and projecting through the open end of said reservoir and movable inwardly into the tube to force the liquid therein outwardly through said rod, a nozzle at the outer end of said rod from which the liquid is sprayed by the inward movement of said rod, and a finger-piece carried at the outer end of said piston rod adjacent said nozzle for operating said rod.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
STEFFI GROSSER.
