IMPROVEMENT IN UMBRELLAS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,176, dated November 24, 1874; application tiled November 4, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ABRAM HEEZBERG and IsAAc HERZBERG, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Umbrellas and Parasols, of which the following is a specification:-
The object of our invention is to impart increased rigidity to the frame of an umbrella or parasol having notches and runners of the character described in the Letters Patent granted to us on the 22d day of October, 1872, No. 132,363, and reissued on the 14th day of J anuary, 1873, No. 5,234. 5 and we attain this object by combining a rib or stretcher, A, having a spherical head and a flattened neck, a, as shown in the enlarged views, Figs. l and 2, of the accompanying drawing, with a notch or runner, B, having narrow radial slots b within which the said flattened necks are fitted snugly, but so as to move freely. (See enlarged sectional views, Figs. 3 and 4.)
The rounded ends of the ribs may be formed more readily and at less expense than the T- heads heretofore used with dat necks, and, by attening and spreading the necks, as described, an extended bearing is afforded for the same within the slots of the notches or runners, sufficient to eectually prevent all lateral or twisting movement of the ribs and stretohers, without interfering in the slightest degree with their movement toward and from the stick or handle E in closing and opening the umbrella.
It should be understood that the spherical heads'd and flattened necks a are y not formed :upon tips secured to the innerend's of the ribs ABRAM HERZBERG.
