ELECTRICAL FIXTURE CONSTRUCTION Filed Dec. 8, 1924 Patented May 21,. 1929.
' UNITED s rEs'f HENRY. n'oLmaJa, or Ba nenrom. couuncrioo'r.
ELEGTRICAL-FIXTURE CONSTRUGTION.'
Application filed December 8, 1924. Serial No. 754,527.
My invention relates to electrical fixture construction.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a suspension socket with means whereby a shade can be easily and quickly positioned thereon. i
Further objects will appear from the description and claims. I
In the drawings, in which an embodiment of my invention is shown:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a suspension socket hanging on a hook adjacent a ceiling outlet;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the suspension socket and the attached plug.
The construction shown comprises the suspension socket 10 having a loop 11 at its upper end to receive the suspension hook 12 which may be secured to the ceiling,an attachment plug 13 having flexible feed wires 14 extending from the pliig to the suspension socket, a ceiling outlet 15 into which the plug can be inserted, and a shade 16 which can be readily attached and detached with respect to the suspension socket.
The shade 16 maybe of any suitable 0011-. struction, and as shown, comprises a translucent diffusing bowl 17 of anysuitable material, and an opaque reflecting bowl 18 resting on and supported by the diffusing bowl. The particular arrangement and construction of the diffusing and reflecting bowls is not claimed in this application, but forms the subject matter of my co-pending application, Serial No. 756,384, filed December 17 1924, which has resulted. in Lettersv Patent Number 1,613,025.
The diffusing bowl is connected with the suspension socket simply by inserting the attachment plug 13 through the opening at the upper part of the bowl 17, and inserting the upper part of the socket 10 into the opening until the inwardly extending flange 19 at a the upper part of the bowl rests on the out wardly extending annular flange 20 at the lower part of the suspension socket. g
The bowl 17 comprising an upper conical portion and a lower bowl portion, the flange 19 being formed on the upper conical portion and the inner edge of the opening in the opaque reflecting shade 18 engaging the base of this conical portion of the diffusing bowl to position and center the shade.
The suspension socket with the supported diffusing and reflecting bowls is then ready to be suspended in position and electrically connected simply by hooking the loop 11 over the suspension hook 12 and inserting the plug 13 into the ceiling outlet 15.
' While I have shown but one i'ormof my.
invention, it is to be understood that Ido not desire to limit myself to this particular construction, since many changes and modifications may be made therein without departure from the scope of the following claims. I
I claim:
1. A fixture construction comprising three telescopically arranged. parts as follows: (1) a lamp receptacle having means for suspend ing it with its axis in vertical position and having an outwardly extending peripheral flange at its lower portion, (2) a translucent diffusing bowl havinga reduced conical portion at its upper end and an enlarged bowl portion beneath said conical upper portion, said conical portion having its upper inner peripheral edge overlying sa d out- \vardly extending peripheral flange, said bowl having an opening in its lower part large enough to permit the passage of said receptacle, whereby said receptacle is insertable into said conical portion from underneath to bring said peripheral flange into engagementwith said peripheral edge, and (3) an opaque reflector shade having an upper portion overlying said bowl portion and having a skirt portion extending downward 1y around said bowl portion and having an opening in its upper overlying portion to receive the conical portion of said difi'using bowl, said conical portion being insertable into said opening from underneath, the edge of said opening engaging said conical portion to position and center the opaque reflector shade.
2. A fixture construction comprising three nested parts as follows: (1) a lamp receptacle'having means for suspending itwith its axisin vertical position and having an outwardly extending peripheral flange at its lower portion, (2) a translucent diffusing, bowl having a reduced conical portion at its upper end and an enlarged bowl portion beneath said conical upper-portion, said conical portion having its upper inner peripheral edge overlying said outwardly extendi P r p eral fl e d an p q r flector shade having an upper portion overlying said bowl portion and having a skirtportion extending downwardly around said bowl portion and having an opening in its upper overlying portion to receive the conical portion of said diffusing. bowl, said conical portion being insertable into said open-' ing from underneath the edge of said opening engaging said conical portion to position and center the opaque reflector ehade.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
