My invention relates to improvements in leather glazing machines, and the object of the invention is to devise a machine for glazing or rolling leather, which is so constructed that it will not warp and will always run true and be positive in its move ment, and which prevents the burning of the leather during the operation of glazing, and it consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as'hereinafter more particularly explained.

In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
The base 1 of the machine is provided with an upwardly extending pair of spaced apart substantially triangular members 2 and3. 'Between the members 2 and 3 is located a plate 5 rigidly secured between the members 2 and 3 and on which is journalled a rocker spindle 4 by means of brackets 6. Between the members 2 and 3 is secured a head block 9, such head block being channel shaped as clearly indicated in Figure 5, and provided centrally with a slotted opening 9 to the lower face of which are secured rocker members 9 in spaced apart position as clearly indicated in Figure 5. v v
The rocker members 9 have arc-shaped outer surfaces against which the plate 10' forming the head of the spindle 11 bears. The plate 10 is provided with a central opening 11 at each side of which are located flange portions 12 having orifices 13 in transverse alignment in which are ournalled the trunnion ends 15 of the rocker spindled 14. The rocker spindle 14 is provided with diametric orifices 16.
The plate 5 is also provided with a central orifice 5 in axial alignment with the Fig. 5, is a sectional view through Fig- 1927. Serial No. 198,043.
orifice 11 of the plate 10. At each side of the orifice 5 are located the brackets 6 on which the rocker spindle 4 similarly formed to the rocker spindle 14 is mounted. Through the orifices of the spindle 14 and the orifices spindle 11 as indicated at 22 is a glazing toolholder 21.
The glazing tool 25 which is in the form of a solidcylinder of glass is held between the clamping plates 23 and 24 provided with are-shaped lower ends-23 and24 which are together of greater amplitude than a semicircle so as to grip the glazing tool. The members 23 and 24 are clamped together and t0 the holder; 21 by a bolt 26.
- The machine'is operated from a shaft 27 upon which is mounted a "crank wheel 29 provided with a crank pin 30. Upon the crank pin 30 is pivotally mounted an arm 31' which is rigidly secured by a bolt 32 to the holder 21. The opposite end of the arm 31 is provided with two plates 33v and 34 forming a receiving jaw into which fits the neck 35 provided with a head 36 having an orifice through which the crank pin 30 extends. neck 35 extends a bolt 37 so as to permitof a swinging transverse movement of the head' on the end of the arm 31. g
A bed for the material to be glazed 1 pmvided with a base 38 upon which the bed body 39 is carried and which is in the form of a hollow casting as clearly indicated in Fig. 6.

The upper face of the bed 39 is provided with a leather cover 42 upon which the skin to be glazed is laid during the operation of glazing or rolling.
It may be pointed out that the rockers 9 are adjust-ably connected to the head block 9 so that they may be adjusted independently and thereby brought to a true position so that they willoperate evenly during the run ning of the machine. Such connection comprises a small slot 43 formed at each end of the head block 9 over each rocker 9.
Into each rocker member 9 is mortised a nut 46. A cap screw which passes down through the slot 41-3 is screwed into the nut 46. By loosening the cap screw 47 the rocker may be readily adjusted longitudinally so that both rockers are quickly brought to an aligned position.
In operating my machine the skin to be glazed is held upon the bed 39 by the opera tor and the shaft 27 revolved, the crank pin 30 of the crank wheel 29 carrying the arm 81 longitudinally and thereby reciprocating the spindle l1. 1
During the forward movement of the arm 31 the glazing holder 21 is thrown upward on the pivot indicated at 22 thereby carrying the glazing tool 25 away from the leather to be glazed during the upward stroke of the spindle ll swung upward by the longitudinal movement of the arm 31.
During the reverse movement of the arm 31 the holder 21 is necessarily drawn downward into engagement with the leather and travels thereover during the downward stroke of the spindle 11 and thereby performs the glazing operation, the plate 10 rocking upon the rockers 9 backward and forward during this operation, being connected to the head block 9 by means of the link 20 as hereinbefore described.
From" this description it will be seen that I have devised a machine which may be readily adjusted to operate absolutely true and be positive in its operation, and at thesame time provide simple means which will prevent the burning of the skin tl'irough the frictional operation of the glazing tool thereagainst.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a leather glazing machine, the combination with the bed plate and glazing tool mounted to reciprocate over the bed plate, of a water cooling device adapted to circulate water continuously through the bed plate to compensate for the heat generated by the glazing tool in frictional contact with the skin on the bed plate.
2. In a leather glazing machine, a bed plate comprising a hollow casting bar ing a central flange extending longitiulinally of the interior thereof from one end to a point in proximity to the opposite end, and means for feeding water into the interior of the bed plate at one side of such central flange to pass longitudinally thereof and past the flange end to the opposite side of the tlange and longitudinally in the reverse direction to the outlet.
3. A leather glazing machine comprising a base member, side standards extending upward therefrom, a head block secured between the standards, rocker members carried upon the lower face of the head block, a spindle plate bearing upon the rockers, a spindle extending downward from the plate perpendicular thereto, link bars connccted at one end to the forward end of the head block and at the opposite end to the rear end of the plate at each side thereof, a glazing tool holder pivotally connected to the lower end of the spindle, a crank wheel provided with a crank pin, an arm swung upon the pin at one end and connected to the tool holder at the opposite end and adapted to reciprocate the tool holder and spindle as the crank wheel revolves, and means for adjusting the rocker members independently longitudinally.
4:- A leather glazing machine comprising a base member, side standards extending upward therefrom, a head block secured between the standards provided with longitrr dinal slots, rocker members carr -d upon the lower face of the head block, securing means extending through the slots of the head block into the rocker members to clamp the rocker members and head block together in longitudinally adjusted position, a spindle plate bearing upon the rockers, a spindle extending downward from the plate perpendicular thereto, link bars connected at one end to the forward end of the head block and at the opposite end to the rear end of the plate at each side thereof, a glazing tool holder pivotally connected to the lower end of the spindle, a crank wheel provided with a crank pin an arm swung upon the pin at one end and connected to the tool holder at the opposite end and adapted to reciprocate.
