The lower part only of the furnace walls 1 is shown, the upper parts being removed in order to thereby better disclose the inner parts of the furnace and the boiler sections and other elements. To the rear o'f' the front wall at is the lire-box, 9 with ash-pit below (not shown), the housing wall 1 hav ing a clean-out door 11. The front wall has the usual superposed fire door 7 and ashdoor 8. The usual bridge 2 crosses the tirebox about medially having an upright upper battle part (3 extending only to the tops of the boiler sections 9 and 10. The arrows in Fig. 1 indicate the course of the heated gases of combustion through the furnace to the chimney 20. around the lower end of a depending battle member 5, and between the boiler sections 9 and 10. the screw-plugs 22 fitting intcriorly threaded seats therein. These fasten steel front and back plates over the front and rear walls of the furnace and also can be removed for clean-out purposes. The inner sections 10 are of triangular shape with their inclined walls below, sloping rcarwardly. This all'ords a clear lire-box space in front below the diminished ends of the sections 10. These sections 10 also have end screw-plugs 22 for a like use. All the boiler sections 9 and. 10 have receiving nipples 14 at the lower pa rls of their rear walls and delivery nipples l3 projecting upwardly from the forward parts of their top walls.
The housing having been removed as also top closure members for the furnace below, Fig. 1 shows the steam drum 1? as supported. longitudinally above the inner boiler sec tions 10 and as having an end man-hole with a closure device 19, secured by clamping members 18. The lower front sides of the drum 17 has oppositely projecting legs 12 in communication with the top delivery nipples 12:3 of the boiler sections 9 and 10. A downwardly directed conduit 3 leads from the lower part of the rear head of the drum 17 to the middle of a transverse leg 15 positioned across the rear vall of the furnace, having a number of sc-l.ew-plugs .16 for cleaning-out purposes, and having opposite them the receiving nipples M of the sections 9 and 10 with which the leg is in communication.
Water heated in the forward parts of the sections 9 and 10 rises through the delivery nipples 13 to the legs 12 and then passes therethrough into the drum 1?. A circulation is set up through this drum and out through the pipe 3 to the lower leg 15 and the receiving nipples 14.- to the sections.
The boiler sections 9 and 10 have large capacity for water, which, when full heated, tends to evenly retain heat althoug 1 the furnace fire may at times diminish in its intensity. This adapts the boiler for many uses, as for water heating supply. The inner sections 10, because of smaller size than the outer sections 9 and because of having both side walls of each fuly exposed to the heated gases o'l' combustion, have their water contents heated more rapidly initially and thritiughout thereis a more rapid circulation therethrough. This hastens the heating of the water in the drum 17, while conversely. the outer sections 10 with their larger water content, retard the cooling of the water therein longer than that contained in the sections 10. An equalization obtained thereby.
The sections 9 and 10 have much less liability to become siltcd up quickly than tubular boilers, and the sections are easily cleansed of sediment by way of the nipples 14 when the screw-plugs 16 are removed. The sections are also relatively inexpensive, strongly stayed, and disassembled witluimt difliculty.
Having described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
