CATALOG COVER.
Application filed Nay 16,
This invention relates to loose leaf devices and has for its primary object-the provision of a catalog cover Which is extremely cheap to make, has but a few parts to perform a vmaximum amount of service and -is constructed to withstand hard usage and Constant handling after the catalog has been bound therein.
One of the primary objects of thisinvention is the provision of a catalog cover which includes a pair of body panels, each hingedly affixed to-al side of the catalog cover in such a manner that the respective side Will move through an eccentric path With respect to its panel when the device is opened or closed.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a catalog cover including a pair of sides having a flexible back joining the same and novelly constructed metal parts whereby a catalog of any thickness may be held by the cover.
A further object of this invention is to provide a pair of post-supporting members each of which presents a hinge pin formed by the striking out of a slot ad]acent one edge of the member. i
Minor objects of the invention Will appear during the course of the detailed specification referring to the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a catalog cover made in accordance With this invention showing but a portion of the filler contained therein.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical cross-section showing the attachment of the brackets.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one postsupporting member showing'the same entirely removed from the cover, and
Fig. .4 is a top View of one attaching bracket.
Similar reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views, and the numeral 5 designates a. fragmentary portion of a sheaf of paper or catalog Which is to be held in the bound position by the catalog cover.
The cover itself may be made up of a pair of cover sides 6 joined by a exible back 7 Which permits the tWo sides to vary their distances apart when' the same are closed to conform with the t-hickness of the sheaf of papers 5 held therein.v
Figure 1 shows the cover sides 6 provided 1927. Serial No. 191,742.
with the Well-known lining While the Same lining members have been omitted yfrom Figure 2; i f
.To make a cover of kthis character With the slightest amountv of cost the parts thereof have been designed to be interchangeable and to present a structure giving the desired results.` 'j i Each side 6 is` provided With a pair of brackets 8 riveted orothervvise rigidly sccured to side 6 by the member 9 in such a mannerthat one end proj ects'outWardly from the side edge over the iiexible back 7. This projecting end is curled to form a hinge barrel 10, which has its aXis in substantially the same plane with the adjacent edge of its supporting side 6. In theinstance shown, a pair of brackets 8 are rigidly secured to each side 6 and the hinge barrel 10 of each engages a co-acting slot 12, formed through a post-supporting member 13, which is of extremely simple construction in that it is made up'of a flat body panel having the slots 12 adjacent one edge thereof whereby the hinge pin portions 14 are provided to enter the barrels 10 of brackets 8. Each post-supporting member 13 should be provided With a plurality of post openings 15 adapted to receive the posts 16 Which in turn pass through the sheaf of papers 5.
If desired a series of these post openings l 15 may be provided throughout the entire length of the panel making up the post-sup porting member 13, `and the post 16 rearranged through the opposite openings 15 when the perforations through the papers to be held vary in distance apart.
The construction just set forth requires the hinge barrels 10 to move toward the flexible back 7 as the binder .is closed and also move to a plane entirely above the Surface of the backs 6 when the catalog cover is opened in order that the sheets may be parted to lie practically fiat.
Obviously the construction of a catalog cover in accordance With this invention permits the manufacture of a device Which is extremely strong and durable, not likely to get out of order, inexpensive, and very effective4 in its operation.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is :I
1. A catalog cover comprising a pair of sides, apflexible back oining said sides, a plurality of brackets rigidly aixed to each side respectively, each bracket having one end independently aixed to its respective side, the other end thereof being formed to present a hinge barrelhaving its axis in the same plane with the adjacent side edge and av post-supporting member carried by the brackets of each side respectively.
2. On a catalog cover a pair of sides, a pair of brackets rigidly secured to each of said sides, a hinge barrel formed by each bracket, a post-supporting member having a pair of slots therein hingedly carried by each pair of brackets respectively, the Wall of said barrel passing through the respective adjacent slot.
3. In a catalog cover, a pair of sides, a pair of brackets rigidly secured to each of said sides, a hinge barrel including a cylindrical Wall formed by one end of each bracket, a post-supporting member having a pair of slots therein carried by each pair of brackets respectively, said Walls passing through adjacentv slots whereby the post-supporting memberis hingedly mounted on the cover side. n Y
4c. In a catal'ogcover, a pair of sides, a pair of brackets rigidly secured tol each of said sides, a hinge barrel including a cylindrical Wall formed by one end of each bracket and disposed partly beyond the adjacent edge of said side and above the inner face thereof, and a post-supporting member having a pair of slots formed therethrough to receive the Walls of each pair of hinge barrels respectively whereby the same is hingedl-y mounted for movement through an eccentric path with respect to said sides when the cover is Opened or closed. f
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aii'ix my signature.
