IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-HUSKING IMPLEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,019, dated December 14,1875; application filed September 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH W. HILL, of Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful 11nproveinent in GorirHuskers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing.
The'object of my invention is to so construct the husker with a heel adjusted on the butt-end of thc-husker, by means of a screwthread, so as to fit it to any size of hand, and also, so that said heel shall be swiveled on the husker to prevent hurting the fingers of the user; second, a button placed on the inside of the bar of the husker to which the strap is attached.
The husker is shown in the perspective view of the accompanying drawing, in which A represents the bar; B, the tang, the bottom of which is bent ata right angle with the bar, as at b, and rests on the forefinger of the operator, the bar in the palm of the hand. The tangis nearly a semicircle with the point slightly bent outward. This deep form or concave of the tang insures a strong hold on the husk, as, when the tang is caught in the husk, and forced through, and the thumb brought down onto the husk at the side of the tang, the husk is held in a twist on the part b, and gives a firm hold. The bar is provided with holes a c c c, the strap 0 being passed through the holes, and secured to the button D. More than two holes are provided, so that the strap can be adjusted (for different sizes of hand) to the two middle fingers of the operator, and the strap provided with suitable button-holes for the same purpose. E is a heel on the threaded part of the husker, and adjustable thereon to the width of the operators hand, the little finger resting in and the curved part to the back of the finger. The heel being in a manner swiveled on the bar, so that when the bar twists in the hand, the heel will revolve on the thread and not hurt the finger.
The hole in the heel may be made plain, and a nut screwed on the threaded part below the heel, adjusting the heel to fit any size hand, and also allowing the heel to-swivel on the threaded part of the bar.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a corn-husker, the heel E, arranged to be adjusted on the bar A by means of the screw-thread, substantiallyas shown and described.
2. The bar A, when arranged with the button D on the inside of the bar, and with the said bar provided with holes 0 cc 0 for the adjustment of the strap 0, substantially as shown and described.
