UNITED STATES LEVI JARVIS, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, NEBRASKA.
CORN HUSKER.
Application filed January 26, 1924.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEVI JARVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Boone and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Corn Husker, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to corn husking devices, the primary object of 1 the invention being to provide a device of this character wherein the blades or hooks forming a part thereof may be adjusted with respect to each other to facilitate the use of the device.
Another important obj act of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein the hooks or blades may be interchangeable, thereby adapting the device for various usages.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de- 25 scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, with out departing from the spirit of the inven- '30 tion.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatical view disclosing a device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken 011 line 22 of Figure 1.
liigure 3 is a perspective view of one of the hooks and disclosing a modified form thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates a supporting strap to which the device, forming the subject matter of the present invention is secured.
The body portion is indicated generally 50 by the reference character 7 and includes sections 8 and 9, pivotally connected at 10, so that one section may move with respect Serial No. 688,738.
to the adjacent section, while in use, it being understood that the device is strapped to the hand of the user, the body portion resting in the palm of the hand.
Elongated openings 11 are formed in the sections and accommodate the bolts 12 that pass through suitable openings formed in the hook members or blades 13 to secure the hook members to the body portion in a manner to permit of adjustment thereof with respect to each other and with respect to the body portion. Due to this construction.,-it will be obvious that two or more hook members may be secured to the body portion, and may be adjustably secured so that they may be supported at angles with respect to each other should it be desired to support the same in this manner.
Operating on the inner ends of the bolts 12 are nuts 14 that hold the hook members against movement while in use, and when they" have been adjusted to their proper positions.
Hand straps 1.5 are secured to the sup porting member 5 and are designed to pass around the back of the hand of the user, where they may be secured to the hand of the user.
The strap 16 is secured at one end of the supporting strap 5 by means of the rivets 17, the last mentioned strap being designed to pass adjacent to the thumb of the user, the ends of the strap 16 being brought together on the back of the hand of the user, where they are secured. It will thus be seen that when the straps have been properly positioned, the device will be securely held against movement with respect to the hand of the user to displace the device and prevent its efiicient use.
In the modified form of the invention as illustrated by Figure-3 of the drawing, the
blade includes a body portion 1.8 formed with an elongated opening 19, one end thereof being turned inwardly and tapered to provide hook members 20 that may be forced into the husk to enable the same to be pulled from the ear of corn.
In a device of the character described a sup porting strap, a supporting body having a longitudinally disposed slot secured to the strap, a plurality oi hook members, each of Yerse relation to each other or in transverse said hook members having an elongated openlng, securmg members adapted to pass through the slot of the body portion and as my 0 elongated openings of the hook members to secure the hook members to the body, Whereby the hook members may be held in trans- 0 aligned relation.
In testlmony that l elunn the loregolng ture.
Wn I have hereto afiixed my signa- LEVI JARVIS.
