HERMAN JAMES MORSE, OF RAYMOND, WASHINGTON.
AEEOPLANE.
Application filed May 10,
The present invention relates 'to an aeroplane and has lor its principal object to provide a structure ot this nature which is more ellieient and reliable than those in coinnion use in that it enables the aei'oiiilane le glidel .more freely in the ai r because of the eliape ol" the top and bottom wings thcreol.'v in relation to each other. n
A still further very important object oi the invention lies in the provision oli an aeroplane ot this nature which -is coi'i'iparatively `.simple in its construction, no more efqieneve to build than the `ordiiurry aeroplane` utrongzj and. durable, and easy to nuiniiiiulale.
lil/lith the above and ninnerous other objects in View as will appea as the deecription rproceeds7 the invention resides in certain novel features oli eoiugsiiruction, end in the combination and arrangement olE parte ae 'will be hereinalter more -fully ydesizribed and claimed. In the d1.awings:-
Figure l .is a fragmentary side elevation et an aeroplane embodyingthe features of my invention,
Figure 2 a iront elevation thereoli7 Figure 3 a rear elevation there:
Referring to the drawings in detail il, will he neen that the numeral denotes a Yl'uscllurc having;- .struts G rising` troni the sides thereof and bottom wings 7 extendino?` laterally there from. Other struts 8 rise 'from the bottoni wings 7 and a top wing 9 is siupporl'ed al; the upper ends of these struts 6 and Sand are thoroughly and elliciently braced by :ouf/,f wires 10. Other guy Wires l1 extend :troni the forward edge oit the top win g 9 to the noi-1e ole the iliuselao'e and pre'l'erablv have meow rated therein lurnluicliles l2 seo lliut lllf .llfl' wires may be maintained in a tight po:- en.
The bottoni wings 7 are braced in relation 'lo f the fuselage li by l'uy wires lil. 'lujlf wires 14 extend :from the' bottom wings lo the no ol the :fuselage and have turnbucliles l therein.
Particular attention is called to the curvature olf the wings 7 and 9. The wings are bowed transversely having their convex ein lfaces disposed upwardly and their concave surfaces disposed downwardly. '.lhe wing' 9 is bowed transversely but has une concave si lrlace disposed upwardly and its convex surface disposed downwardly. Both of the wings 7 and the wing 9 have a strean'i line contour in side edge elevation. The partie- 1927. .Serial No. 190,222.
ular curvature oil? these wings enables the aeroplane` to 1de most elliciently in the air as compared to the structuren now in common use. These curvatures also enable the n aeroplane 'lio lilt from the {fround more quick f is al'. the nose of the liusllage and any number thereona may be used. The tail structure 2l is oit suitable design including' the rudder 2l and. the tail ailerons E22. It is also to be noted that l'he luselagze 5 is olt a sl Jain liuc contour so as to assiet in the liill. o'l' the aeroplane in conjunction witli the lilft oil' the wings 7 and Q thus attaining a thorough cooperation ybclween the parts. Y
lhe present eniboilinient of the invention has beenV disclosed iny detailY merely by way oi" example .since in aizlliial practice il attuineA .ab Il'eatlnes oli' advantage enunuuated :is flcsirable .in the .s atelnent ot the ii'lvention and the above description.,
It will be apparent that changes i u the de talle oi confitructiom in the proportion and sizes olE parts and .in the couiliiination and a rrangrgjeinent thereof7 may be resorted to without departing; lroin the spirit or scope ol i nvention as hereinafter claimed or sacri lici n o any of its advantages.
Havingl thus described my invelii'ion, what l claim an new is:
an upper wingj structure, said upper wing; n
structure being' bowed transversely to provide a wholly concave side lacing uijiwardly and a wluilly convex side iacin downwardly, said lower wing' structure being bowed transversely to lnovide a wholly ioirvexr surface lacing i'ipwardlyanil a wholly concave side l'zf i'downoni-illy. said wings he" olixell cons fuction, and with their opposed longitudin al ed ge portions in diverged relation.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HERMAN rJAMES MORSE.
