Description

SKIP HOIST Filed March 10, 1928 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 ffl/6.5.

ROBERT H. BEAUMONT, 0F RADNOR, PENNSYLVANA, ASSIGNOR TO R. E. BEAUMONT COMPANY, OF PHTLADELPHTA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYL- VANIA.
SKIP HOIST.
Application filed March 10, 1928.
Objects oi' the present invention are to dispense with bent rails at the junction of mutually inclined straight rails or tracks; to provide tor holding straight rails at the curved junction points to gauge and to the supporting Wall or structure; to resist the reaction ot the oblique stress due to the :tact that the pull ot the cable which is attached `to the skip bucket is not parallel with thetracks, more particularly the curved tracks; to simplify and improve and avoid 'difficulties in skip hoist designs; and to standardize skip tracks by providing tor the use 01"' all straight rails ci" any required length and of standard junctions or frogs tor each standard size skip bucket.
Other objects ot the invention Will appear' from the following description, but generally stated, the invention may be said to comprise a supportinff structure, straight parallel rails arranged in mutually inclined sections, and a yoke having means for securing it to the supporting structure and having confrontingarms provided With concentric curved Wheel guides and said yoke also provided with brackets adapted to support the end parts ot the straight rails in alignment With the curved guides.
The invention also comprises the improvements to be presently described and linally claimed. y
ln the following c escription reference will be made to the accompanying drawings torining part hereof and in which Figure 1 is an elevational view, partly in section and son'\eivhat diagrammatic, illustrating a skip hoist embodying features ot the invention.
Fig. 9. Vis a view drawn to an enlarged scale and illustrating the construction at the junction ot the end parts oli the rails.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the construction shown in Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
ln the dravings 1, generally, represents a supporting structure. 2 and 3 are straight parallel rails arranged in mutually inclined sections ot which three are shown in Fig. 1,
Serial No. 250,626.
but the number is not important. 4 is a yoke having means 5, shoivn as perforated ears at the base ot the yoke, tor securing it to the supporting structure. rlhe yoke 4 also has confronting arms G provided with concentric curved Wheel guides 7 and 8. The yoke is also provided on opposite sides et' the Wheel guides with brackets 9 and 10 adapted to support the end parts ot the straight rails in alignment with the curved guides 7 and 8. In dotted lines in Fig. 3 there is shown a bale guide Wheel 11, which is also shown in Fig. 1, and in Fig. 1 there is shown a skip bucket 12, and in dotted lines 13 the cable by which it is operated. The cable in passing over the guide sheave 14 and acting upon the Wheel 11 exerts a pull on the track oblique to the direction ot the track. The described yoke resists this pull at the junctions, keeps the rails in gauge, and affords means for securing them to the supporting structure.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modilications may be made in details ot construction and arrangement and matters of mere form Without departing from the spirit o1' the invention Which is not limited to such matters or otherwise than the prior art and the appended claims may require.
I claim:
1. ln a skip hoist the combination oit a supporting striiicture, straight parallel rails arranged in mutually inclined sections, and a yoke having` means for securing it to the supporting structure and having confronting arnis provided with concentric curved wheel guides and sai-d yoke also provided with brackets adapted to support the end parts et the straight rails in alignment with the curved guides.
2. ln a skip hoist the combination ot' straight parallel rails arranged in mutually inclined sections, and a yoke having confronting arms provided with concentric curved wheel guides and saidyoke also provided Witlr brackets adapted to support the end parts ot' the straight rails in alignment Witlrthe curved guides.
