Description

. JAR CLOSURE Filed Feb. 29, 1928 IN V EN TOR.
A TTORNEYS.
Patented Apr. 2, 1929.
UNITED STATES J niors PATENT OFFICE.
JAR CLOSURE.
Application filed February 29, 1928, Serial No. 258,054, and in Sweden January 19, 1928.
This invention relates to iars or similar acids or other noxious constituents in the material contained in the jar.
Another object oi? my: invention is a jar closure which allows a spoon, a spatula, a brush ore similar inugleuient to be left in the jar since the closure has been tightened, and that even if said implement has a stem or such a length that it projects shove the mouth of the jar.
In the accompanying drawing an elevation in section of an eniluidinient of my invention is exemplified especially adapted to be used as a mustard pot for the table. I run however anxious to make clear, that I 'do' not. want to restrict my invention to exclusively such contrivances as shown in the drawing, as my invention with the some profit can be realized in conjunction with other shapes oi? containers as well as for other perishubles.
in the drawingthe jar or container is designated 9 and though manufactured oi? glass, any other suitable material can be employed. The closure consists of a cork 2 or a plug of some other suitable material.
which is provided with :1. control bore 1 of a comparatively small diameter. .A domelilie cup 8 of some malleable metal closes the upper mouth of the bore 1 from communication with the atmosphere, said metal cap being secured air tight tothe cork or plug 2 by means of the inwardly bent edge l which forms a collar or flange squeezed into the cork or plug body. In order to facilitate the applying and removing of the closure and to make its material nonpenetreble for rnoistures and gases the body of: the closure is coated with perailine or similar substances all around its outer cylindrical surface as well as the cylindrical sun face of the bore 1 and the bottom end surface. These coatings are in the drawing designated at 5.
In accordance with this invention the interior 6 oi. the dome like cap 3 is tilled with perafline or similar substances, so that only a rather small portion thereof is left empty in the term of a cavity which comprises an extension of the bore 1 so that said bore in combination with the cavity 10 forms an and the filling in cup 3 is reamed so that the cavity 10 of desired size will be formed.
lVhcn applying the closure to a jar 9 where the spoon '7 is left with its stem 8 projecting above the mouth Ofli the jar, the upper end of saidstein 8 enters the bore 1 in the plug 2 and the cavity 10 in the cup 3 so that the airtight closing of the jar by the closure will not be prevented by the projecting stem 8. When some oi the contcnis of the jar are to be taken out the closure is removed and then the upper end of stem 8 of the in'ipleinent 7 is accessible without having been soiled by theronhints oi the jar. Having thus described my said invention what I claim is:
A removable closure for bottles and the i like comprising a compressible stopper portion having a centrally disposed aperture therein, a metallic inverted cup-shaped cap portion secured. to the outer periphery of said stopper, and a filling of min-porous inaterial cooperating with said cap and stopper portions, said filling having a recess therein in alignment with said aperture.
