- The primary object of this invention is to provide a sel ustaining garbage receptacle of destructible waterproof and acidproof material, which is be carried away with the garbage and not used a second time.
A secondary object is to provide such a receptacle as will revent the escape of obnoxious odors and w ich will be sealed against the entry of insects and the like.
With these and other equally im ortant objects in view, reference will be ha to the accompanying drawing, whichforms a art of this specification and wherein like re erence characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several Views, in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional View of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the upper portion thereof, and Fig. 3 is a similar view, with parts shown in rspective.
fithe drawing, reference numeral 1 designates the body of the receptacle, whichus formed of waterproof and acid roof material 26 such as paper or papier machi, and 2 represents the bottom thereof, which may e formed integrally orseparately, .uthe latter forming no material part of the invention.
The sides of the receptacle, diver e up wardl to form a pail-like member, w ch is provi ed near its ulpperf'edge with a head 3, thesame being ro ed or molded to shape. Beyond this bead'tl, thesides continue into an exposed rim portion 4, which is provided at 6 diametricallyOpPbsite points with horizontally elongated openings 5, to receive th'e'finers of the hand of the user or garbage coli ector in transporting the rece tacle.
A cover 6 in the form of a disk preferably d when in and c osely hugging the head 3. Atdiametrically op site points, this closure disk 6 1s 5 provide with upwardly extending tabs 7,
which are provided each with an opening 8.
In using the receptacle, the garbage is placed therein and the cover is applied, and
' when it reaches the position illustrated in Fi 3, its edges begin to snugly engage the sid es of the rum portion 4, and from then on to its final position on the head 3, considerable force must be applied around its marginal edge to force it to place. The tabs 7 afford a convenient means for first applying and re I moving the closure, each tab being en ged between the thumb and fingers of t 0 hand, with a finger partiall or entirely entered in the opening 8, the ta being'long enough to set awa from the rim portion 4 for the accommo a tion of the fingers between the same and the rim Egrtion 4. Obviously, an instru ment could engaged in the opening 8 instead of the finger. When the closure is in place, the same occupies a plane below the bottom of the openings 5 to fully expose the same as handle elements.
Garbage, when placed directl in metal con talners, adheres to the sides an bottom thereof and the said content thereof attacks the metal, furthermore, the closures of metal garbage containers seldom have a ti ht fit and for that reason permit the olfiznsive odors from the garbage to escape as well as permitting ready access of insects and the like to the contents of the receptacle, affording a very unsanitary condition of afi'airs. When, instead of placing garbage'in a metal receptacle, in direct contact with the metal sides. thereof, paper linings are rovided, the same depend for sustainin qua ities upon the support of the receptac e, usually by bein attached in some wa I the up r edges 0 the receptacle, but sue a lining, zside not bein self sustaining and independent of the meta container, is incapable of receiving a ti htly fitting closure member, which is capable of ready insertion and removal finally or at different times for the placement of garbage in the receptacle.
It is further pointed out that the receptacle audits-closure member, being formed of aper or the like, may be carried away and isposed with the garbage; and .forms no obstacle to destruction of the garbage by the usual methods, and in'the ease of'destruction by incineration is-a distinct aid thereto owing to the nature of the waterproofing material, which in this case is paraffin.
: Thus, by the use of this invention, it is only 100 necessary to have a stack of nested ails from which one is removed when neede avoiding the constant presence of a receptacle on the floor. These receptacles are made in difi'erent sizes so that a size may be seletced according to the requirements of each meal prepared, after which, the receptacle is sealed y 8. plying the cover and the receptacle place outcupying a plane below said handle :pening, and apertured tabs extending upwa y from diametrically opposite points on the edge of said closure member and ada ted to permit the insertion of the fingers o the hand between the same and the side wall of the receptacle, the upper edges of the tabs positioned below the upper of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof afix my signature.
MARY THOMAS PERRY.
