Description

C. G R A Y. WAQON-JACK. N 0. 170,548. Patented Nov. 30 1875.
INVENTOR RNEYS;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES GRAY, OF GREENE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT m WAGON-JACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,548. dated November 30, 1875; application filed November 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OHARLEs GRAY, of Greene, in the county of Ohenango and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Wagon-Jacks; and [do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of aside view of my wagon-jack, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view thereof. This invention has relation to wagon-jacks which are composed of vertically-slotted standards, a lifting-lever which is vertically adjustupper ends by means of a fulcrum-bolt, a, to
which along pawl, G, is pivoted. Each standard, A, has a vertical slot, 1), in it, on each side of which notches 0c are made for receiving a fulcrum-pin, e, which. is fixed to a lever, G.
The notches allow the lever G to be adjusted higher or lower, as may be required, and a rack, f, on the lever G is designed to receive the'end of the pawl O for sustaining a Weight upon the short arm of said lever. The end of the short arm of lever G is beveled, as shown at g, and near the upper broad end of the pawl O is a beveled shoulder, g, against which the end g of lever G fits when the parts are adjusted as shown in Fig.2. When leverGr and pawl G are in the position last named they are wholly inclosed between the two standards A A out of sight and out of theway, and the fulcrumpin e rests in the notch c.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p In a Wagon-jack having standards A A, slotted and notched as described, the lever G and pawl 0, formed so that they can be folded in between the said standards, as shown in Fig. 2.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
oHARLEs GRAY.
Witnesses E. 'WARD BROWN, JAMES RAMsEY.
