Description

W. STOKES. SUSPENDERS.
Patented Nov. 16, 1875.
41/1/11 ill/1g) INVENTUB M ATTORNEYS WITNESSES We! N.FETERS. PMOTO LITNDGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, Dc 0.
E'NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM STOKES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND HENRY HEATH, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
I MPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 70,027, dated November 16, 1875; application filed July 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM SToKEs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Spring Attachment for Suspenders, of which the following is a specification:
The object of the invention is to furnish an improvement in metallic-spring attachments for suspenders. To this end I adapt the construction herein specified, whereby, among other advantages, the device is adapted for connection with the ordinary button-strap in such a way that the latter passes through the slotted spring-holding case, and acts directly on the spring-follower.
Figure 1 represents a rear view of a suspender, having my improved spring end attached, part being broken away to show the construction more clearly. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
In the case here presented the box or frame A is stamped or pressed in the form, as shownthat is to say, having one, two, or more slots, B B, on each side, an annular hole, 0, in the center, and a horizontal slot, D, across the extremities. The said piece, being thus stamped, is then doubled, so as to bring the horizontal slots together, as shown in Fig. 2. E is a loose cylindrical box inserted through the annular hole, 0, the said box to be of sufficient depth to receive the spring F when compressed. G is a traveler-block supported on the upper end of the spring F, the said traveler to have its sides made with one or more projections, H, which shall fit in the aforesaid slots B B, and thereby serve to hold and guide the same. The top of the travelerblock is rounded, so as to form an easy bearing for the strap '1.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The metal frame A, having slots B, in combination with traveler Gr, spring F, and box E, the same being constructed and arranged to operate in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
WILLIAM STOKES.
