UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
GEORGE W; HOLDEN, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOK-COVER PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,905, dated November 16, 1875; application filed April 24, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Book-Cover Protector, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to the manner of folding the paper forming the cover.
The drawing is an inside view of the cover.
D represents a book-cover, made of paper of a firm texture, and is folded over a suitable form. The top and bottom laps O are represented by lines and dots, and also the side laps B. i The laps O are first folded down on the form, the edges of the laps B being glued, and the side laps are glued or pasted and pressed down onto them, the point being folded under, as represented by dotted lines. This fold makes the edge firm, and, as a consequence, when putting the cover on the book, the cover at this point is not liable to tear.
When making a cover with muslin lining the muslin is glued onto the paper in the form shown at A. The laps E are then cut with the side and end laps, and are folded, asbefore described. This muslin lining protects the back, where the cover is most liable to wear from opening and closing of the book.
The back laps may be folded down and glued to the back, or remain detached.
To put the cover onto a book both lids are bent directly backward. The cover is then slipped-on, and the lids are then closed.
What I claim as my invention is- As a new article of manufacture, the bookcover protector, the side lap -B of which embraces the top and bottom laps G, as and for the purpose specified. I
GEORGE W. HOLDEN. Witnesses:
