Description
Patented Jan. 8, 1929.
UNITED STATES CARL W. BIESER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR CASE COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO,
TO THE GRUEN NATIONAL WATCH A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
RIBBON CLASP.
Application filed September 9, 1927. Serial No. 218,448.
This invention pertains to a clasp, more particularly of the kind which is adapted to be used on ribbons for wrist watches, and similar articles, and the invention seeks to provide a clasp which will securely fasten the ribbon around the wrist, and which will not be likely to become accidentally unfastened.
The article forming the subject-matter of this invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 represents, a plan view of the assembled clasp, showing it attached to a ribbon.
Figure 2 is a' section taken on the line 22 of Figure 1, showing the means of securing the clasp to the ribbon.
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1, showing details of the form of the clasp. L
Figure 4 is a plan view of the top member.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the bottom member.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that the clasp comprises a top member 1 and a bottom member 2. By bottom member is meant the member which normally is in contact with the wrist of the wearer. It will be seen that one portion 3 of the ribbon is looped through the slot 4 of the top member 1, while another portion 3 of the ribbon is threaded through the slots 5 and 5 provided in the bottom member 2.
It will be seen from Figures 3, 4 and. 5 that the top member 1 is provided with recesses nearthe bottom of its flanges, these recesses being designated as 6 and 6 It will also be noticed that the bottom member 2 is formed with flanges at its side, and that on these flanges are projections 7 and 7*, which are adapted to fit within the recesses 6 and 6 of the member 1, so that the mem ber 1 will be in tight engagement with the member 2 and at the same time vertical displacement of the member 1 is prevented.
'The member 1 is provided with sufficient springiness to enable it to slip over the projections 7 and 7, and which will also cause the member 1 to tightly engage these projections.
It will thus be seen that the invention provides an article of the character set forth, which will be readily manufactured, and which will be free from liability of accidental unclasping. In order to unclasp the article it is necessary to slide the top member from the bottom.
I desire to comprehend within my invention such modifications as may be clearly embraced within my claims and the scope of my invention.
1 Having thus fully described my invention,
.what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A ribbon clasp comprising separable top and bottom members, flanges on each member, recesses in the flanges of the top member and projections on the flanges of the bottom member engaging with the said recesses, the said top member being provided with sufficient springiness to tightly engage the bottom member along the lines of the projections thereof.
2. A ribbon clasp comprising separable top and bottom members provided with coacting flanges, the said members being held in engagement by frictional contact between said flanges, and means integral with the said flanges for substantially preventing accidental disengagement of the top and bottom parts.
3. A ribbon clasp, comprising separable top and bottom members, a ribbon receiving slot in the upper member, and a plurality of ribbon receiving slots in the bottom member, flanges on each member, and interlocking means on each flange to hold the members in engagement with each other.
4. A ribbon clasp, comprising separable top and bottom members, means in the top member for engaging a ribbon, a plurality of means in the bottom -member for engaging a. ribbon, a flange on the top member having a recess therein, a projection on the bottom member adapted to engage said recess and to lock the top member and the bottom member in engagement with each other.
5. A ribbon clasp, comprising separable top and bottom members, means in the top member for engaging a ribbon, a plurality of means in the bottommember for engaging a ribbon, flanges on the top member, each flange having a recess therein, projections on the bottom member adapted to engage. said recesses and to lock the top member and the bottom member in engagement with each other.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.-
CARL W. BIESER.
