BELT KEY-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 19211.
Application filed April 15, 1919, Serial No. 290,124. Renewed April 12, 1920. Serial No. 373,388.
[0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALVIN A. LUTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Jackson, in the county of Shenandoah and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt Key-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to key ring hangers.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a key ring hanger of such construction that its accidental rev moval from a belt is entirely avoided.
A further object of this invention resides in the provision of a key ring hanger of such construction that the key ring will be locked thereon and the locking means utilized to retain the han 'er on a belt.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and formation of parts to be more particularly set forth in the specifica tion herewith and pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that the right is reserved to resort to such changes in construction as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hanger;
Fig. 2 is a sectional View through a belt with the hanger in locked position thereon.
In the present embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 designates a metallic strip of material which is bent upon itself at its medial portion to form a shoulder 10 and a pocket 12.
The oppositely extending end portions 1-1 and 15 of metallic strip are bent to form loops 1G and 17 at their medial portions, and the end 18 of the portion 14 thereof is offset as at 20 to produce a channel 21 for the insertion of a belt B within the channel 22 that is formed by bending the opposed sides 23 and 24: in substantially close relation. in order to prevent the accidental removalof the hanger from the belt, the shoulder 10 is adapted to engage the lower edge of the belt at which time the resilient side 23 will bear against the outer side of the belt to limit the lateral movement thereof.
The other end portion 15 after being bent to form the loop 17 is pressed together and bent inwardly midway between the loop 17 and its terminal 26. The terminal 26 is adapted to be retained in the pocket 12 to lock the key ring R in the loop 17 so that its displacement is prevented. I
In the use of the invention when it is desired to attach the ring to the holder the terminal 26 is disengaged from the pocket 12 and the ring engaged with the loop 17 as shown. The terminal 26 is then reengaged in the pocket 12 to prevent accidental re moval of the ring.
With this invention fully set forth it is manifestthat a key ring hanger is produced which is cheap to manufacture, safe in preventing the loss of the keys and comfortable to carry.
Having thus described this invention, what I claim 1s As an article of manufacture a key rlng holder consisting of a strip of material having its medial portion bent upon itself and the extensions thereof looped at their medial portions with their terminals directed toward the medial. bend of the strip, one of such. extensions providing a key ring supporting loop and engaging the medial bend of the strip to prevent accidental displace ment of the ring.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ALVIN A. LUTZ.
