CARL D. FAHSEL, DECEASED, LATE OF NEW YORK, N. Y., BY NELLIE 1B. FAHSEL ADMINISTRATRIX, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
REID-LEAD PAINT.
No Drawing. Application filed November 10, 1921, Serial No. 514,315. Renewed September 5, 1928.
This invention relates to compositions of particularly to coating materials or paints.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide a paint the body or filler of which consists only of red lead, 90% to 93% pure, having associated with it a suitable vehicle hardening of the paint indefinitely.
Another object of the invention is to provide a vehicle of a composite nature and of such a chemical composition as to hold the red lead in suspension. indefinitely, thus making a perfect red lead paint.
Tlie preparation of this paint involves the following steps in substantially the orderenumerated: first, as a primary vehicle there is employed linseed oil, either boiled or raw,
preferably boiled, and specially treated by mixing therewith a secondary vehicle consisting of a mixture of a suitable cheap varnish preferably what is known as ceiling varnish in connection with paraflin oil such as is commonly known as floor'oil or w/hite oil. These parts are taken in the proportion by measure, of 50% linseed oil, 25% ceiling varnish, 12 floor oil, and a suitable drier such as japan drier to the amount of 12 Thirdly, to one gallon of the combined vehicle. above described, is added about 20 pounds of pigment the composition of which i should be from 90% to 93% pure dry red lead.
spirit varnishes are too expensive to be practical for commercial purposes.
I claim: 1. The herein described red lead paint comprising a pigment consisting of only red lead in combination with a vehicle having the property of keeping the lead in suspension indefinitely and preventing the hardening in the container, the proportions of the components being approximately 20 pounds of pigment and 1 gallon of vehicle, the vehicle being made up of linseed oil 50%, light oil varnish 25%, floor oil 12 and drier 12 2. The herein described process of mixing a paint which consists first in mixing tog ether a light oil varnish and a paraflin oil, secondly, mixing the same with boiled linseed oil as a primary vehicle, and thirdly mixing red lead in the vehicle thus provided.
