UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ens-ABE. r. CASTAGNA, or HURLEY, Wiscons n WINDOW-DISPLAY DEVICE.
' Application filed February 14, 1928. Serial No. 254,172.
This invention relates to store furniture and more particularly store window displaying devices.
The primary object of this invention re lo the provision of a store window displaying device adapted to be shifted toward the window panel from the interior of store.
A still further object of this invention resides in the provisionof a store window displaying device adapted to be shift-edrelative to the window pane and rotated so as to dispose the front thereof for convenient access to the interior to permit removal and replacement of articles to be dis 'ilayedj In addition to the aforesaid objects this invention resides in the provision of a window displaying device consisting of an cinbodiment of associated elements whereby the article carrying or supportingelement thereof can.be rotated on a. shiftable element or locked against rotation thereon, said locking element further acting to establish the desired frictional contact with its associated carrying element to prevent accidental rotation.
Among the salient features of this invention a further purpose of the embodiment is the co-action of an association of certain elements whereby the display cabinet or the like can be shifted forwardly or backwardly relative to a window pane and yet permit of quick and easy removal from the show window.
YViththese and other objects in viewthis invention resides in certain novel features of construction, arrangement and combinations of elements to be hereinafter more fully set forth in the specification illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim and, while the disclo- 5 sure depict-s my present conception of the in vention, the right is reserved to make such changes in construction as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application;
Figure 1 is a sectional View through a store window showing the elements of this invention associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one form of display cabinet associated with the elements of this invention.
the table.
Figure 3 a longitudinalsectional view through the display cabinet base.
Figure l is a front view thereof.
Figure 5 is a plan view thereof with, the table removed.
Figure 6 is a bottom perspective view of Figure 7 is a sectional View on line 7-7 of Figure 3.
Figure 8 is a sectional view on line 8 -8 of Figure 3. Figure 9 is a riage sections.

Figure 11 is a similar view of the rear plate. I I
perspective view of the car- In the present embodiment of this invention, the letter A designates a display cabinet or the like and is preferably constructed to present its access opening, glass door'or the like toward the store window so as to readily display the contents thereof to the public from the exterior of the store.
The aforesaid or other similar type of display cabinet is associated with a base 5 formmg the subject matter of this application, the same consists of grooved tracks 6 secured together at their ends by cross-pieces 7 which have downwardly directed arcuate upper surfaces 8 conforming to the lower surfaces 9 of a carriage 10. This structure permits the carriage to be removed from the ends of the tracks upon removing certain elements to be hereinafter set forth.
Secured or otherwise associated with one of the cross-pieces 7, preferably the forward one, is a standard 11, while extending across the opposite end of the tracks and fastened thereto is a centrally apertured plate 12 which, together with the standard, form bears ings for a longitudinally extending threaded shaft 13, said shaft is provided with a collar 14 adapted to bear against the inner surface of the plate 12 with a reduced portion 15 thereof projecting through and beyond the plate for the accommodation of a crank handle 16 or other suitable elementadapted to cause it to rotate under the control of an attendant.
Associated with the aforesaid threaded shaft 13 through the instrumentality of an internally threaded sleeve 17 is the aforesaid carriage, the same preferably being formed of companion sections 18 and 19 adjust-ably retained in operative relation by the aforesaid sleeve 17 and nut QO'threaded on one end thereof. This sleeve has a smooth exterior surface 21 for the major portion of its length and an exterior threaded area 22 atone end while the opposite end thereof is provided with an enlarged collar 23 adapted to bear against the adjacent outer surface of one of the carriage sections, said collar 23 is provided with a flat area 24 which is adapted to he engaged by a. shoulder 25 formed on the adjacent outer surface of one of the carriage sections to prevent the sleeve from turning during rotation of the threaded shaft, thus it will be observed that as the shaft is rotated the carriage, including the sleeve, will traverse the shaft and fellow grooves 26 formed in the tracks through the utilization of ribs 27 formed on each carriage section.
Each carriage section is provided with a substantially semi-circular head 28 provided with a substantially seini-circular pocket 29 in their upper surfaces, the walls 36 of which are under-cut toaccominodate a similarly cut circular boss 31 formed on a table 32 which is rotatably clamped between the carriage sec tions by the aforesaid sleeve and nut associated and, where rotation ofthe table relative to the carriage is undesirous, the same canbe rigidly associated with the carriage by simply tightening the nut whereupon the semi-circular pockets will bind against the boss 31.
The aforesaid cabinet or the like is secured to theaforesaid table by any suitable fastening means, such as screws, bolts, clamps and the-like, but where the display device, cabinet, etc., is of such formation, contour or structure as to not warrantthe use of fastenthe table and the functions of the invention carried out with equal proficiency.
Through the utilization of the aforesaid association of elements, it is manifest that a display cahinct can be shifted ljiackwardly and for ardly in a store window from the interior of the store and. through the provision of a rotatable table, the cabinet can be turned so as to dispose its door, entrance or front toward the attendant.
\Vhile I have, in this instance, disclosed this invention as associated with a cabinet or the like, its utility may be extended to display or manipulate models, toys, figures or the like similarly in store windows.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire toprotect by Lctters Patent is A window display device of the character set forth comprising grooved tracks, a sectional carriage slidably associated with the grooved tracks, a non-rotatable sleeve passing through the sections of the carriage and barin; a. threaded interior bore and a substantially semicircular pocket in the upper surface of each carriage section, a table associated with the carriage, a boss carried by the table and seated in the pockets of the carriage, a. nutthreaded on one end of the sleeve, a shaft threadedly associated with the bore of the sleeve, shaft supports carried by the tracks, a display device carried by the table and a crank secured to one end of the shaft.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CESARE F. CASTAGNA.
