Application filed kApril 18,
arranged thata slight lifting pressure will,v
` cause theconnector plates to fly apart, thus vlengthening the strap and permitting it to be removed from the wrist.
'A recommended embodiment of the invention isillustrated in the accompanying draw ings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a bottom plan view. ofthe improved device, showing the connecting lmeinbers in opened position; i
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, showing the parts in closed position;' y
Fig. 3 is a side elevation, showing an interthem in such manner as to impair their inv mediate position of the elements; and Fig. 4L is a transverse .section on the'line 1-4 of Fig. 2. n i
The wrist watch strap with which my improved connecting means isassociated ,preferably consists of two flexible strips 5 and 6 constructed of any suitable material, such as leather, fabric or chain links, having at their respective outer ends appropriateA connecting` means 7 andS for attachmentto thewatcli. The inner ends of the respective strap section are provided with loops 9 andy 10 which are fastened in spaced relation by means of pins 11 and 12, respectively, adjacent the free ends of the hinged connecting members which embody this invention. p
These connecting membersl include a plate 13, having parallel side walls 14 and 15, and a pair of extensible, overlapping connector' plates 16 and lfpivotally connected by a hinge 18 at one end thereof. `The opposite end of the plate 16 is provided with .side ears 19 apertured to receive a pintle 2O which extends transversely through the sidewalls of the plate 13, and the corresponding end of the connector plate` 17 has jsimilar ears v21 receiving the pin 11 of the strap loop. Y In the closed position'illustrated by Fig. v2, the connector platesV are folded beneath the cover .plate 13 in overlapping relation, and are detachably secured to each other by cooperating frictional locking means including 1927. serial No. 184,548.
a centrally disposed stud or button 22 aiiixed 55 to plate 17 and a oomplemental slot 23 in plate 16. When the movable elements are thus fastened, the watch strap is secured upon the wrist against casual disengagement,
yet the locking means maybe readily released by lifting a projecting tongue 24fof f. the cover plate 13. Theslight pressureof a linger tip beneath the tongue will causethe connecting members to spring apartun-- til theyY assume the opened'position of Fig. 1, 65 and the length of the strap is lextended sulficiently to` permit the wrist watch andfstrap to be removed without disconnecting the lwatch from the strap.
It will be noted that both of .the cooperating locking elements are sodispo'sed that' they are fully concealedbeneath the lcover plate kwhen the device is in" closed position and also that neither of said elements are f subject to-any external contacts which might 75 accidentallyy separate them or bend either of terlocking eilicieney. Furthermore the ar'- f rangement of this simple but effective lockf ing meansbetween the two connector plates 'permits the utilization of a cover .plate of any practicable size and shape for the cover. plate preferably has no locking engagementl with the connector plates and consequently' need not be constructedwith a niceregard 85 for exact dimensions. n If desired, the eective length of the lstrap l may be adjusted to ay particular ,wrist size i by varying the position of the fastening pin 12 with respect to the cover plate 113..- For 90 this purpose, additional pairs of openings 25 i may be provided in the respective wallsllf` and 15 of the cover plate toreceive the ends of the pin 12-whic`h may vhave depressible springtensioned ends to permit easy-attachment within the selected pair of apertures, whereby the end of thestrap member may f be adjustably'positioned to provide the de.- sired length. l n f In combinationwith a wrist watch Strap, extensibleA strap-connecting means comprising a cover plate having side walls, means for securing a section of thestrap between said side walls adjacent one4 end of the. cover 105 plate, [an intermediate connector plate pivoted. betweensaid side walls adjacentthe opposite ends of the cover plate, a second 2 t t l `1,695,487
