Description
.E. H. BECKWITH.
VALVE. No. 169,510. Patented Nov. 2,1875.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
EDWARD H. BEGKWITH, OF ST. PETERSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN VALV,ES.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. 169,510, dated November 2, 1875; application iled December 8, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD H. BEGKWITH, of St. Petersburg, county ot' Clarion and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Valve. The following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same may be distinguished from others ot a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimedasnew, and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States.
My invention relates 'to that class of valves known as check-valves; and the nature thereot' consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying plate ofdrawings, in which corresponding parts are designated by similar letters, Figure 1 represents a vert-ical section through a union-valve having my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a top View ofthe lower or one-way face.
A slot, a, is cut in the lower section of the coupling or one-way face b, for the reception ofthe valve, of such a shape as to allow the valve to be revolved into an upright position. In the side of said slot is out an angular receptacle, c, for the reception of the wed geshaped piece d, to which the valve is'pivoted. The upper face e rests upon the top ot' the said wedge-shaped piece, and holds it iirmly iu position. The valve o, covering the opening h, is pivoted to the pointed rod 7c, which is hinged to said wedge-shaped piece in such a manner that when it is swung upward it will assume a vertical position. For this purpose an elongated slot, m, is cut in said wedge-shapedv piece, for the reception ot' said rod. The rod is made pointed, in order to allow the valve to rotate.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination ot the one-way face b, provided with slot a and angular receptacle c, for
the reception of the' wedge-shaped piece d; the upper piece e, resting upon the piece d, and holding it in position; the valve o, covering the opening h, and pivoted to the pointed rod la; the pointed rod 7c, hinged to the wedgeshaped piece, and tting within an elongated slot out therein.
In testimony that'I claim thegforegoing I have hereunto set my hand.
E. H. BEGKWITH. Witnesses:
JOHN LoRscH, DANIEL SONAPPENBERGER.
