DISTRIBUTING- DEVICE.
Applieation filed August 19, 1927. Serial No. 214,026.
My invention relates to distributing de vices and has for its object to provide'a distributing device comprising a vertical channel adapted to properly support and deliver cylindrical packages arranged in two vertical contacting columns; also to provide such a device with a folding flag adapted to be held in either a downwardly or an upwardly extending position. Q
The following is a description of a d1stributing device embodying my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which,
Fig. 1 shows in perspective a distributing device embodying my invention;
F 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the same on the line 22, Fig. 5;
Fig. 3 is a section of the same on the line 33, 1; I
Fi t shows a container constituting a part of my device with a cover partially broken away which may be applied thereto; and
Fig. 5 shows .a portion of my device in section on the line 55, 2.
Referring more particularly. to' the drawings, 2 is a casing having sidewalls whichextend downward and are fastenedto a base portion 4. This base portion, as shown in Fig. 5, is at its forward end bent upwardly so as to form a rearwardly inclined wall 6 and then downwardly so as to form an abutment 8 and then is curved and extended upwardly to a point 10 substantially at the middle of the side walls 2. It is then extended substantially horizontally as at 12 and connected at 14C to a rear wall 16 integral with the side walls 2. The front edges of the side walls are provided with inwardly turned flanges 18 which extend to the tops of the side walls but stop at points 20 so as to leave a discharge opening abovethe front portion of the bottom wall of the chute, of a height greater than one-half the depth of the chute but less than the full depth. Within the ca ing and through the upper end thereof is a removable container 22 having two layers of cylindrical packages 24 therein. This container has secured to its upper end a flap or flag 26 which can be bent downward to the position shown in Fig. 4c or upward to the position shown in Fig. 1. When it is bentup ward and the container is fullyinserted within the casing, the side flanges 18 engage with the front lower portion thereof and hold it in I the packages in v this front portion 28 and hold it down against vertical position. Thecontainer can be in: sert-ed into the-casing with the flagin the position shown in Fig. 4 i fjdesired.
The end of the container the side walls as shown at 30 and is preferably in its medial part provided with a scored or weakening line 32. y
lVhen the container is inserted in the casing the front column rest upon themetallic flooring so that it is supported thereby in the desired inclined position, as shown in Fig. 5; The front portion 28 is preferably bent outwardly before the container is inserted in the casing. The forward part of the rear portion of the end wall of thecontainer is supported by the abutment at the point 10 of the casing.
In using the device, the parts are assembled as shown in Fig. 1, the container being previously filled with round packages. The substantially horizontal portion 12 supports the rear column while the front column moves downwardly, the packages rolling out of the discharge opening until their movement is arrested by the abutment 8. The packages may be removed one or two at a time and as they are removed more packages roll downopposite the fiag '26 has its'front portion 28 disconnected from along the line 32 ward fromthe front column until movement 7 is arrested by the abutment. As the front column moves downward the packages from the upper end of the rear column roll forward so that the two columns are maintained at approximately the same height.
The device constitutes an efficient means for delivering round packages in two vertical contacting columns and provides a visible flag for display and advertising purposes and embodies a container to which a cover may be applied 'so as to form a box for an advance. supply from the packages to be As will be evident to those'skilled in the art, my invention permits various modifications without departing from the spirit there of or the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a distributing device, the combination ofa vertical chute having inwardly turned forward edges and adapted to hold two columns of cylindrical packages,'a discharge opening below the lower ends of said edges having a width less than the depthof said distributed.
a floor for said chute having a slopinw portion extending beyond the front of said chute, and an abutment coacting with said floor and located in front of said chute at a distance approximately equal to its depth, the rear portion of said floor being substantially horizontal.
2. A distributing device comprising a caraing having a vertical channel composed of. a rear and side Walls, the side walls having inwardly turned portions at their front edges and having an opening at which the lower ends of said inwardly turned portions terminate, an abutment spaced away forwardly from said lower end, a floor extending in a downwardly slanting direction toward said WALTER BAILEY CHAFFIN WASHBURN.
