COMBINATION TRUNK.-
Application fi1ed"Eebruary'9, 19 25.; se'n lfujasi ifl My invention relates to anewanduseful improvement in a Combination trunk and has for its object the provision of a trunk provided with a plurality of drawers and a slidable drawer forming member adapted for use as a writing desk.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision in the combination trunk of the desk forming member so constructed and'arranged as to be quickly and easily moved to operative position and also rigidly secured and quickly and easily moved to inoperative position so as to require a minimum amount of space.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of. parts hereinafter described and claimed. I
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification "and in which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing the trunk in open position.
Fig. 2is a fragmentary view showing the desk forming member in said elevation.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the modified form of the desk forming member.
As illustrated in the drawings'the invention as shown applies to a trunk although the invention could also be utilized in connection with a suitcase or similarreceptacle. As shown in the drawings thetrunk comprises a main body 7 having a cover 8 hingedly connected thereto, the trunk being of the. type commonly knownas a wardrobe trunk. A plurality of drawers 9 are positioned for slid able movement in the main body 7. Slidably mounted in the main body 7. is a comparatively shallow drawer forming member having the front wall 10 hin'gedly mounted and adapted for swinging downwardly as shown in Fig. 1 to permit the base 11 of the drawer to be used as a writing desk or surface, partitions 12 and 13 being mounted at the rear end of the base 11 to provide, with the cover portion 142, pigeon-holes for con-,
tainin: stationery and the like; hen the front wall 10 is raised to operative position it is locked by a suitable latch 15 which is mounted on the inner side of the side walls 16 and 17. Swingingly mounted on the upper surface of each of the side walls 16 and 17' is a supporting arm 18 adapted for engaging a hook 19 mounted in the side walls of the main body 7 of the trunk. As shown in Fig- EVA 2; nunsn, or nnrnorr, iviron rsaivn so thatsame will not prevent the'closing of the cover 8 up on the main body 7. These arms 18 are provided with eyelets21 which engage in eyescrews 22. These eyescrewsare also poat 2 the side tangle assa in a) pro:-
.vlde a spa ce for accommodating theliooks 19 sitioned in recesses'QS formed in the side walls 16 and 17. When in an operative position these arms may be swung downwardly to lie V in the drawer shown in Fig. 1. When the drawer is pulled out into the position shown in Fig. 1 and the arms engaged in the hooks 19 the base 11 is held in rigid position so that a firm writing desk or table is provided.
In the form shown in Fig. 3 I have provided the drawer forming member with a cover 2 1 which'is provided with a suitable latch 25 adapted to, engage the front wall 10. The cover 2a is used as the writing desk or surface and the drawer proper used for containing various articles. The supporting arms 18 are similarly mounted for engaging hooks such as already described. When the arms 18 are not in use the same may be placed in an engagement with the cover 24; suitable grooves 26 being provided. for accommodat- "ing these arms. I I
The use of such a dev ce for a writing desk is particularly desirable by those occupying rooms in which the space is limited and in which no table is provided. The writing desk thus provided in the trunk isconvenient for.
use and durable of structure so that the utility of the trunk is considerably increased.
While I have illustrated and described the tending position for permitting the use of the b-aseof said draweras a writing surface; and means permanent-1y connected swingably at one end to saiddrawer forming memberand adapted for detachable connection at the other end to said trunk for bracing said and desire to secure by Letters drawer forming member when used as a desk and preventing inwardmovemen,t' of the same.
