In addition to the above, it is a further object to provide a structure having the above characteristics which'may readily and'securely be detachably associated'with the ironing board.

It is a further object to provide a construction which may be passed over an edge of the board and held with relation to the board.

The invention has these and other objects, all of which will be explained and more readily understood when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing which illustrates one embodiment of which the invention is susceptible it being obvious that changes and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the appended claim. forming a part hereof.

a is a section taken on line 44 of Fig. 3. The structure illustrated contemplates the use of a member 10 which is adapted to be detachably secured to an ironing board by being passed over an edge of the board. To this end the member 10 is provided with the. element 11 and the forwardly extending

12, 13 and 14, between which an end of the ironing board may be arranged. This member 10 is further provided with a means for detachably holdingit with relation to the ironing board. The member 1() is furtherprovided with-the apertured lug '18, through whiclrthe cord 19 Q is passed, it being understood that one end of this cord is provided'with a plug20 for insertion into a socket and has its opposite end provi-ded with "the connector '21, whereby said cord is attached to the iron. The member 10 is also provided with a bracket 22 which preferably extends upwardly and slightly rearwardly from said member 10 a suitable distance to maintain that portion of the cord between the iron and the bracket in an ele vated position away from the garment or other article being ironed. This bracket 22 carries a shive or roller 23 over which the conductor travels as said conductor is extended and retracted during the ironing operation. That portion of the conductor which extends from the lug 18, over the shive and to the connector 21, is of a length sufficient to allow for a suitable amount of slack to permit the iron to'be moved a certain distance from the appliance, and is provided with a weight 24 having the roller 25, the weight being employed to cause the retraction of the cord with the iron as the iron is moved towards the appliance which will thus maintain that portion of the cord extending from the lug to the shive in a taut condition to maintain that part of the cord extending from the shive to the iron1 in an elevated condition away from the wor A means is provided whereby that portion of the cord extending from the lug 18 to the socket is relieved of any of the strain applied by the weight 24 and to hold the cord against -movement relatively to the lug. This means is indicated by the numeral 26 and consists of'a tubular element secured to the cord and provided to engage the lug and thereby hold the cord against relative accidental movement with respect to the lug. The bracket 22 is preferably of an inverted U shape and has its inner faces provided with the bayonet shaped grooves or slots 27 for the reception of the ends of the trunnion of the shive to allow the shive to be readily assembled with the bracket. It is, of course, understood that when the cord is arranged upon the shive between the shive and the upper end of the bracket that the accidental separation of the bracket and shive is prevented.

From the foregoing description, it is manitest that a simple and effective structure is provided which may be readily associated with and removed from the ironing board, and which will at all times maintain that portion of the cord extending between the iron and theshive in a taut and elevated condition, yet allow the iron to be operated. back and forth or sidewise during the ironing operation. It is further evident that a r structure is provided whereby that portion of the cord extending from the device to the socket is relieved of the strain of the weight employed for maintaining that portion of the cord extending from the device to the iron in a taut condition, which thus eliminates the possibility of accidental disconnection of the plug and socket.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim and desire to cover by Letters Patent In a device of the character described, the combination of a bracket member whereby the device may be attached to an ironing board, a pair of laterally separated cord supporting elements arranged. at and projecting from an edge of the bracket, one of said elements' being extended upwardly to provide means for supporting a cord section which extends therefrom to the iron in substantially n i M I a n L parallel relation to the lace oi the lroning board, said cord supporting; elements providing means which co-operate with each other to arrange another portion of said cord along; and beyond an edge of the bracket member, and one of said cord supporting elements providing-means for securing the cord to the bracket.
