NECKTIE STRETCHER.

This invention relates to stretchers especially adapted to be used for holding neckties or cravats in a stretched condition when not in use, so that when removed from the stretcher the tie will have assumed a neat,

. tidy, and substantially flat condition permitting the leaves of the tie to hang properly when adjusted to the collar.

One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a novel form of spring connection between the pair of bars comprising the main parts of the stretcher, which connection serves also as a guide in arranging the device within a tie.

. Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tie stretcher constructed in accordance with the present invention, the bars being shown as arranged together so as to permit the easy insertion of the device into a tie.

Figure 2 is a similar view of the opposite side of the stretcher, said bars being disclosed in a separated condition, and

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially upon the line 3-3 of Figure 2 for more clearly disclosing the means whereby the bars may be forced towart or away from each other and retained in a predetermined position. 7

Now having particular reference to the drawing, my novel tie stretcher constitutes the provision of a pair of elongated flat like bars 55, the outer edges of which are of converging formation as clearly disclosed in both Figures 1 and 2. I

The narrow ends of these bars 55 are interconnected by reason of a length of spring metal that is so bent as to provide a substantially bell shaped loop 6 and a pair of legs 77 that are arranged upon the inner surfaces of the bars 55 and substantially flush therewith so as to permit the bars to be fully moved together, see Figure 1.

The loop portion 6 as well as the legs 7-7 of the spring connection are connected to the bars 5-5 by metal straps or other desirable securing means 8. r

Secured to the bars 55 adjacent the lower ends thereof are circular lugs 9-9 threaded through which are the opposite ends of a threaded rod 10, the threads upon the oppos te ends thereof exterufling in reverse directions as more clearly disclosed in Figure Arranged upon this screw rod 10 intermediate the ends thereof is a thumb wheel 11 so as to permit of the rotation of said rod.

The inner edges of the bars 55 at the lower ends thereof are notched as at 55 so as to provide a space for the thumb wheel 11 when the bars are moved into contacting relation.

Obviously by reason of the previously described means at the lower ends of the bars 55 said bars may be forcibly moved into or out of engagement in predetermined manner so as to completely stretch the tie A, shown in dotted lines in Figure 2 after the device has been inserted therein.

It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and efficient form of tie stretcher that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated and even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what f I claim is I of the bars for forcibly moving the same toward or away from each other upon said spring connection, said means consisting of a screw rod having reverse threads at the opposite ends thereof, lugs upon said bars having threaded openings within which the ends of the rods are arranged, and a thumb wheel disposed upon the rod intermediate the ends thereof.

2. In a tie stretcher of the class described,

a pair of elongated bars, a spring connection between the forwnrd ends of the bars, lugs arranged on the opposite ends of the'bars and provided With threaded openings, a screw rod having reversed threads at the opposite ends thereof for'threaded engagementwith the respective Lugs, a thumb wheel disposed on the intermediate portion of the rod for actuating the same whereby to forcibly move the bars toward or away from each other, the 10 inner opposed faces of the bars being notched toecco'rnmodate the thumb Wheel when the bars are in abutting relation.
