s'rnAP CONNECTION.
Application filed June 7, 1928. Serial No. 283 647.
The present invention relates to strap connections and an object thereof is to provide a novel means of securing an attaching device to the end of a strap.
To this and other ends, the invention con sists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described: the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a wrist band for watches and the like embodying the present invention; I
Fig. 2 is an enlarged View of one end of the strap showing the two parts of the strap connection prior to being interlocked;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3-3, Fig. 1; and g Fig. 4:. is a sectional view of one of the anchoring parts of the connection. 7
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a strap made of elastic mate- 1 rial such, for instance, as a web of elastic material covered by leather, like that described in the patent to Maurice Scheuer, No. 1,192,691, granted July 25, 1916. 2 indicates an open ended box having across sectional opening therethrough slightly greater than that of the cross section of the strap 1, and 3 indicates an attaching member, which, in this instance, has a portion thereof in the form of a plate adapted to be positioned between the inner face of one side of the box, and the outer face of the strap. This attaching device has at one end a-curved portion 4 which forms a hook, the end of which is adapted to cooperate with the edge of the side wall of the box opposite that side wall engaged by the plate 3 so as to form a closed passage 5 in which is adapted to be received the attaching bar of a watch or any other suitable device. The plate portion of the attaching device has prongs 6 projecting from its inner face and penetrating the strap 1. The prongs in this instance, are struck up from the sheet metal plate portion of the attaching device.
For the purpose of insuring the open ended box against slipping oh" the attaching device, a retaining means is provided comprising, in this instance, a latch or tongue 7 lying in the plane of the sheet metal portion of the attaching device, provided with a shoulder 8 adapted to cooperate with that end of the box 2 opposite the end engaged by the is-depressed and the box portion 4 to hold the box 2 between the por tion 4: and the shoulder 8. The opposite face of this shoulder or abutment 8 is bevelled at 9 so that the box like structure 2 may ride over the shoulder to engage behind the same, depressing the resilient or spring tongue 7 into the resilient strap 1. To release the box 2, the end of the tongue or arm 7 projecting beyond the shoulder 8 and the edge of the box is then slipped onto the strap 2 and off the attaching device.
From the foregoing it will be seen that there has been provided a strap connection in which the attaching device is held to the strap by an open ended box, interlocking means being provided between the strap attaching means and the box like structure whereby the latter is held against accidental displacement from the normal position. The interlockingmeans comprises a tongue or spring arm lying in the plane of a plate portion on the attaching device positioned between the strap and the inner face of one side wall of the box like structure, said tongue having a shoulder for cooperating with one edge of the box like structure while the opposite edge is engaged by a portion of the attaching device.
lVhat I claim asmy invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a strap, and an open ended-box surrounding the strap, of an attaching device having a plate portion lying between an inner face of the box and the outer face of the strap and provided with a prong engaging the strap, and movable means carried by said plate portion for interlocking with the box to hold the latter against move ment.
2. The combination with a strap, and an open ended box surrounding the strap, of an attaching device having a plate portion lying between an inner face of the box and the outer face of the strap and provided with a prong engaging the strap, and movable means carried by said plate portion for interlocking with the box to hold the latter against movement, said movable means spring tongue. having a shoulder for engaging with the box to hold the latter against movementrelatively to the attaching device.
3. The combination with a strap, and an open ended box surrounding the strap, of an attaching device having a plate portion lying between an inner face of the box and the comprising a and an open ended box surrounding the strap, of an attaching device having a plate portion lying between the inner face of the box and the outer face of the strap and provided with prongengaging the strap, ahook projecting from one end of the plate portion and having its end engaging one end of the box, and a resilient tongue projecting from the other end of the plate portion and having a shoulder engaging the other end of the box.
