Patented Nov. 1928'.
UNITE-D s ares JAooB mom-1., on NEW YORK, 1v. 'VY.
rnousnnsi j v Application filed March 31, .1925 Serial No. 19,591)
This invention relates toknickerbockers trousers, andthe like wearing appareh One object thereof is to provide in a. garment ofthe character. described, improved meanswhereby the waist-band is made adjustable for a wide range of sizes,which means is normally concealed in part or in whole and yet conveniently arranged for quick and. easy operation. 1
A further object of the invention is to pro-' vide means of the character describedwhich is inexpensive to embody inthe manufacture of wearing-apparel, neat in appearance, and
to a high degree practical and eflicient for the purposes described.
Other ob'ects of this invention will in part:
be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed The invention accordingly consistsin the features of construction, combinations ofele ments and arrangement of parts which will be eXemplifie-din the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will'be indicated in the following claims.
'In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pair of trousers constructed to embody the invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken through the waist band of the trouser shown in Fig. 1; v
Fig.3 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified form of belt construction embodying the invention;
Fig. 4; is a fragmentary cross-sectional view taken through the waist band corresponding i to the modified form shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 5 is a plan view of one of the belt section's.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 denotes a pair of trousers having an improved adjustable waist-band '11 embodying the invention, said trouser being of any well known construction.
The waist band 11 is seen to comprise the usual outer strip or member 11 and thein'ner' v lining 11 between which passes belts 12, 13
secured by stitches 14 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The belt 12 extends around the back and sides of the waist-band lland-may be formed of a single piece or in two similar parts as shown in Fig. 2, and the belts 13 are posi: tioned' to extend from the front trouser closure 10 about the front and side of the waistband 11.
and13 may and'2.
Each of, said belts may be madeofnon- I elastic or extensible material as desired, and the end portions 12 and 13 of each is prefer ablyshaped to be of less width than the remaining portionso that the latter (the belt section proper) is of substantial width to comfortably fitlabout the waistof the wearer and. so that the adjustable means,- namely'the end portions 12v and 13 and buckle 15 may-be made relatrvelysmall and inc'onsplcuous.
- In usingtheinvention,the trousers 1O positioned in place and the waist band 11 is adjusted 'by..si1n1f)ly.pulli1'1g the ends l2, and 18 of the belts threaded through the buckle 15 in the well understood manner.
trousers for making theadjustment after which said buckle may again be inserted between the said member and. lining.
It is apparent from the above description that a simple and practical trouser construction is provided embodying improved means whereby the waist size is adjustable, said means eing inconspicuously arranged and although permanently incorporated in the trouser structure does notdistort or mar the normal'appearance of the latter when adj usted to various sizes. Because of the location and shape of the said means, it may be adjusted to comfortably fit about the wearers waist. I
a device in which the several objects of this invention are. achieved and which is well adapted to meet the conditions ofpractical use.
It will thus be seen, that there is provided As various possible embodiments might be 1. A garment of thecharacter described having a waist-band comprising. an outer member. and an inner liningg'a plurality of belts secured to extend between said member and lining, the end portion of each belt being 5 *elatively narrow in width, said member being perforated at spaced distancesalong the waist band to permit the narrow free end portions of the belts to extend to the exterior side of the garment andbeing also provided with openings on each side of the perforated portions for inserting the narrow free end of thebelt. a W
2. Agarment of the character described having a waist-band comprising anouter member and an inner lining, a'plurality of belts secured-to extend between saidmember and lining, the 1 end portion of each belt being relatively narrow in width, said member being perforated at spaced distances along the waist band topermit the narrow free end portions of the belts to extend tothe exterior side of the garment and being also rated at spaceddistances along the waist" band to permit the free end portions of the belts to extend to the exteriorside of the: garment, and being also provided with openings at the side of the perforatedportions forinserting the free ends of the belt. I
4. A garment of the character described having a. waist-band comprising an-outer memberand an inner lining in combination with means permanently incorporated in the garment structure for adjusting the'waist band for various sizes; said means including a plurality of belts secured to extend between said member and lining, said member being perforated at, at least three points spaced along the waist band to permit withdrawing said means to the exterior side of the garment for adjustment purposes and adapted to permit the reinsertion of said means for entirely concealing the same.
