KNITTING FRAME.

Fig. 5 is a plan view showing portions of two wales, exemplifying a mode or manner of connecting the same together.

In the preferred form of the invention, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the device consists of a substantially U-shaped frame'member,

the arm elements 10 beingheld parallel with each other by means of a regulating bar 14. As shown, said bar is provided with two pairs of notches 15-15 and 16-16, within which the frame-arms are engaged to retain V the same at definite distances apart.

When the notches 15-15 are used, the arms will be held by the bar 14 parallel with each other as shown in Fig. 1; but when the notches 16-16 are used to receive the arms, a link 17 is sleeved upon the frame (Fig.2) to cooperate with the bar for retaining the arms 10 in parallel at a shorter distance apart than when the notches 15-15 are used.

The bar 14 is connected to said frame member by the provision of a rod 12, one end of which is secured to the bar and its Other end is formed with any eye 18 through which said member extends at the bond 11 thereof. The rod 12 is disposed medially of the arms 10 and constitute with the bar a part, or second member of the frame. The bar is located at a distance, approximately, of one-third the length of the device from the extremities of the arms.

The frame to the rear, or left hand side of the bar 14 in Figs. 1 and 2, of the device will be hereinafter designated as the handle end and the arms which protrude beyond the bar, as the prongs.

In the modified construction, Fig. 3, the device is constructed of two side arms 10 and 10" having branches 18, 18 and bar elements 19, 19 extending at right angles therefrom; thebranch and bar elements 18 and 19 of one arm 10 being tubular to receive therein the branch and bar elements 18 and 19 respectively, of the other arm 10 thereby permitting lateral adjustment of thetwo arms with respect to each other. 20 represents set screws extending through threaded holes in the parts 18, 19 and engaging the complementary branch 18 and bar part 19 for securing the members of the device at selected spaced apart relations with each otherj For using the device, in either of its forms, the work, as a Wale, is

upon the prongs thereof as indicated in Fig. 4 in the following manner: One end of the yarn is secured as a loop a upon the prong w and then extended to the prong y about which the yarn is looped as indicated by b and thence as in loops 0 and I) about prongs w and 3 alternately. In passing the yarn from one prong to another the successive leads are knotted together in pairs, as indicated by d, the knots being of suitable shapes and sizes to conform with a desired pattern.

After the prongs are occupied their entire length, or nearly so, with the loops 6 and c of a Wale, the same, when using the device as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, may be slid down upon the handle portions ofthe arms 10 by temporarily disengaging the bar 14 from the arms.

A device constructed according to the present invention, not only facilitates the work but enables persons, whether skilled or not, to produce uniform and attractive looking knitted products. 1

What We claim, is,

1. knitting device comprising a frame having a substantially U-shaped member, and a bar member, said bar member being provided With notches to receive the arms of the first named member to retain said arms in parallel relation ata definite distance apart, said bar being located intermidiate the length of the frame, and a rod extending from said bar and connected to the U-shaped member at the bend thereof.

2. A knitting device comprising a frame having a substantially tl-shaped member, a bar member located intermediate the length thereof and connected to said arms to retainthe same parallel.
