Description

E-. H. HUNT. Bottle-Stupper.
No. 169,000. Patented0ct.19,l875.
WITNESSES S INVENTOR WW JV -JWV v By I .dttorney N.PETERS, FHDTO-LITKOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON, D O,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELISHA H. HUNT, OF WARREN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTT'LE-STOPPERS. I
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,000, dated October 19, 1875; application filed June 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISHA H. HUNT, of Warren, in the county of Trumbull and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bottlestopper for bottles containing soda-Water or other liquids in which carbonic-acid gas is found, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows the upper end of a bottle with my stopper therein. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the bottle-stopper, and Fig. 3 is a section of the same.
The main part of my bottle-stopper is made of wood, turned to form an inverted cone, A, having a knob or button, B, at its lower or apex end of the cone. At the upper or larger end of the cone is aflange, G, from the center of which a stem, D, projects upward. Through this stem is passed a string, a, for fastening the stopper to the neck of the bottle, so as not to become detached therefrom and be lost. Over the lower end of the Wooden part thus constructed is placed a piece of rubber, G, made in the form of a rubber nipple, which is prevented from coming off by the knob or button B, as seen in Fig. 3. When the stopper is inserted in the bottle it may be fastened by means of any of the ordinary fasteners now in common use.
It will be seen that in my bottle-stopper the rubber envelops the lower end of the wooden cone A, with its button B at the lower or smaller end, sothat when the stopper is inserted in the bottle the rubber will not curl up, as is often the case in stoppers having simply a rubber band or gasket.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the inverted cone A, with knob B at its lower end, and the flange O and stem D at its upper end, and the rubber nipple G, enveloping the cone and button, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of May, 1875.
HARMON HUNT, I. N. DAWSON.
