Description

w. A. HOBBY.
Glass Cigar Lighter. No 168 981 Patented0ct.19,18.75.
NPETERS.PHOTKLUTHOGRAPHEIL WASHINGTON D C UNrrEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. GORBY, OF BELLAIRE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLASS CIGAR-LIGHTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,98 l, dated October 19, 1875; application filed September 21, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. GORBY, of Bellaire, in the county of Belmont and State of'Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Glass Cigar-Lighters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact d scription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My improved cigar-lighter is made of glass, and in one piece, embracing a lamp which has one or more receptacles for alcohol, which are integral with the lamp itself, and made by the same operations; or the foot may be made separately, and united to the bowl or main part of the lighter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a view of the cigar-lighter as it emerges from the first operation, or the pressing. Fig. 2represents it after having been reheated and rubbed into shape to receive its metallic accompaniments; and Fig. 3, a view of the cigar-lighter completed.
In the first operation of the making of my improved cigar-lighter the glass is pressed into the shape shown in Fig. l by a pressing motion similar to that made in pressing an ordinary glass drinking-goblet. By this operation the lamp-body A, its foot B, and the side alcohol-receptacles G are pressed into the shape 'Ihe cigar-lighter and its alcohol-receptacles,
being made of glass, are transparent, and the quantity of oil in the lamp-bowl and of alcohol in the dip-receptacles is always apparent. It
is perfectly seamless, and, therefore, cannot leak. It has, in addition to being a highly-ornamental piece of bar-room or cigar-store furniture, the advantages of being quickly made, and, should any part become broken, it can be replaced at a slight cost;
A modified form of my invention consists in separately pressing the bowl and foot, and afterward uniting them together at the point indicated by the/line a: as.
I claim- The glass cigar-lighter, consisting of the lamp-body A, its foot B, and the sidedip-receptacles G, integral with said body A, as set forth.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A. GORBY.
Witnesses:
