GARDNER A. BLODGET, OF ELMIRA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ADJUSTABLE SCREEN-HOLDERS Specification forming part 01 Letters Patent No- 16S,7l0, datedOctober 11, 1875; application filed A September 1, 1875. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GARDNER A. BLODGET, of Elmira, in the county of Ghemung and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Screen-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which the figures represent perspective views of different forms of the device.
Similar letters of reference in the drawings denote the same parts.
My invention has for its object to provide a screen or shade for general use which shall be light, cheap, and simple in its construction, and readily adjustable. To these end's it consists of a suitable standard or upright, combined with an adjustable screen-holder, as I will now proceed to describe.
In the drawings, A represents the standard or upright, formed of wire, the lower ends of which, in this instance, are twisted with other wires, and bent outwardly to form feet ff,
upon which the device is supported. Any
other form of base may be employed, however, without departing from the spirit of my invention. B is the screen-holder, constructed of wire suitably bent, as shown in the drawing, and adapted to receive and hold a screen, S, of light metal or other material. The vertical wires 12 b of the holder B are placed at a slight angle with each other, and slide in guide-loops a a, formed by bending the upper end of the wire standard A, while the lower extremities of said wires 12 b are bent around the vertical wires 0/ a of the standard A, as shown.
By this construction the holder B can be adjusted vertically on the standard A, the friction between the parts being sufficient to hold it in whatever position it is placed.
H is a handle or projection secured to the wires 1) b, to facilitate the adjusting of the device. The relative position of the vertical wires a a of the standard is maintained by one or more braces, b.
The screen-holder may be shaped to accommodate a straight screen, as shown in Fig. 2, or a curved one, as in Fig. 1, and the screen may be constructed of any suitable material; but I prefer to use light, thin metal.
This device is very light and cheap, and is adapted to a variety of uses not necessary to be enumerated. sizes, and ornamented and finished in colors as desired.
I claim as my invention- The standard A, provided with the guideloops at a, in combination with the adjustable screen-holder B, constructed, arranged, and operated substantially in the manner described.
