PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WEIGH AND JOHN JEFFERYS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN FOLDING CRADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,691, dated October 11, 1875; application filed April 24, 1875.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we,-JOHN WEICH and JOHN JEFFERYS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Cradle, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a side view of the cradle as when in use. Fig. 2 shows it folded. Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 1, partly in section. Fig. 4 is an end view of the cradle folded.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the body of the cradle. B B are the rockers. These rockers are attached to the bars 0 O, which bars are pivoted at one end to the bottom rails D D of the cradle-body A, and are fastened to the other opposite rails D by means of the pins E. These pins have each a head, F, as seen in Fig. 3, which pass through slotted plate Gr, (see Fig. 2,) which prevents them from coming out after they are turned one-fourth of a revolution.
When the cradle is folded the rockers are turned on their pivots from the transverse po sition (seen in Fig. l) to a position parallel with the rails D, as seen in Fig. 2.
H is the bottom of the cradle, which is hinged to one side by the butts I I, so as to turn up against the side, as seen in Fig. 4. K K are the ends of the cradle. These ends are each made in two parts hinged together, as seen at L L, Fig. 2. They are also hinged to the sides (or posts) of the cradle m m, as seen at N in the drawing.
With this construction the cradle may be folded so as to require but little space and be compact inform, as seen in Figs. 2 and 4.
When making ready for use, as seen in Figs. 1 and 3, the rockers are readily changed. The ends are straightened, the bottom is turned down, and a cradle is produced of the most approved form, and most convenient to use.
Having thus described our invention, We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-' v In combination with a folding cradle the pins E, having heads F, and the slotted plates G, as and for the purposes described.
