This invention relates to an adjustable open end wrench and it is intended to provide a wrench which is capable of turning round objects as Well as polygonal ones.
' An object of the invention is to provide an a stiff spring so that it is quite ditlicult to accidentally dislodge the movable jaw from its engagement with its pivot pin.
Another object of the invention is to provide a wrench of such type as to make it easily produced in punch press and drop forging operatings, the handle being made of sheet metal punched and pressed to form with only two rivets to hold it in place.
Other objects of the. invention will be apparent as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in whichthe same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout the several figures of the drawings and of which there may be modifications.

' The wrench handle comprises a sheet metal member 1 cut in one end to provide openings 7 through which the shank 2 of the jaw 3 may extend when the edges and sides of the handle have been brought together as indicated in Figure 4, to produce a receptacle for the zig-zag spring 5, abutment 6 and the space for the shank 2. i
The end 1 is rounded up as shown.
The shank 2 has three notches 7 8 and 9 formed therein to enable the jaw to be placed in three different adjustments with respect to the pin 10, and between the ends of the handle there is the hardened steel jaw 11 With serrations 12, held in place by means of the rivet 13, said jaw also having its serrated portion extending over both edges of the. sheetmetal handle.
It will be seen that the handle is drawn together so that its edges are substantially in contact as indicated at 15, while the side to which the pressure is applied in operating the wrench is solid, as indicated at 16.
It is also to be noted that the wrench is adj ustable, not only in three difl'erent positions as represented by the notches, 7, 8 and 9, but that in each one of these positions the aw 3 can be moved to enable several different sized nuts or objects to be turned in that single adjustment thereby greatly increasing the scope of usefulness ot'the wrench.
It is also to be noted that in all of the ordinary work, the wrench can be pushed straight into an opening or recess of any kind to be engaged with the object to be turned, whereby the greatest length of movement possible is given the wrench where a nut, stud or pipe is to be turned in the bottom of some recess diflicult of access.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows, but modifications may be made in carrying out the invention as shown by the drawings and in the above particularly described form thereof, within the purview of the annexed claim.
A wrench of the class described comprising a hollow formed sheet metal handle having two flat sides, and two rounded sides, one of said rounded sides having the edges of the metal brought substantially in contact, one
' end of said handle being rounded up, the
other end having a hardened jaw fixed therein, the face of said aw being approximately parallel with one edge of said handle, there being an opening through the rounded sides adjacent said jaw, a shank adapted to slide through said opening at a slight angle, notches in said shank, a transverse pin in said opening adapted to be engaged by said notches, a jaw on said shank approximately parallel with said hardened aw, an abutment slidable in said handle and having an angle to suit the angle of said shank, and a fiat zigzag shaped spring extending from said abutment to the end of the handle and adapted to press said .abutment against said shank.
