Description

Sept. 18, 1928.
J.M. FULTON APPARATUS FOR RECTAL, VAGINAL, AND SURGICAL USES Filed Feb. 20, 1928 Patented Septr 18, 1928;
UNITED STATES- .mm m. FULTON, or ;neuem MICHIGAN,
APPARATUS FOR RECTAL, VAGINAL, AND SURGICAL USES.
Application filed February 20, 192 8. Serial No. 2515 17.
This invention relates to an apparatusfor rectal, vaginal 'andsurgical uses and partcularly to liquid deli very apparatus for such uses or any of them.
The object of the invention is to provide means for delivering water under watermain pressure 'to an elevated tank and nixng with such water as it flows to the tank a medicament,- antiseptic or some other in-gredient,
lo and to provide for drawingoflz' the contents of said tank at a regulable rate for rectal,
vaginal, or surgical purposes. e
'Another object is tho provide in a Water supply pipe leading to an elevated tank an enlargement or chamber for receiving a solution to be introcluced into said tank by water flowing through said pipe, and to mount upon said ppe a convenient means for del1verng a regulable and measura'ble quantty of such solution into said enlarged portion or chamber.
A further object is to provide for draining from such tank any portion of its contents' remaining after use of the apparatus, and to likewise provide for convenient flushngof said enlargement or chamber'and the porton of the supply pipe leading therefrom to the tank.
A still further object is to provide for reguous solution delivered from 'the tank.
These and various other objects the invention attains by the Construction hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
\ F igure 1 is a View in side elevation showing the herein described apparatus arranged in proximity to a toilet bowl.
Figure2 is a perspective view of the same.
In these views the reference characters 1 and`2 designate a pair of pipes rising through the floor 2 of a toilet room, adjacent to the toilet bowl 2, and leading from any suitable sources of hot and cold water under pressure. Said ppes are connected by a mixing head 3, the flow to which is adapted to be regulated and proportioned by suitable valves 4. From the head 3 there rises a pipe 5, 6, 7 leading to an elevated tank 8, supported in any suitable manner and provided preferably with a removable cover 8 to facilitate its cleansing. The portion 6 of said pipe is of enlarged diameter to form a chamber for reeeiving a medcament, antiseptic, or some other substance which may be conveniently .side of the tank lating the temperature of the water or aqueadmitted to said portion from a cup 9, having a discharge connection 10 with said pipe just above the enlargement 6, and controlled by .a suitable valve 11. a
From the bottom of the tank 8 a drain pipe 12 extends downwardly and in the illustrated Construction passes through the floor Q At a level convenient to the seal of the bowl 2 avalve 13 is provided in the pipe 12 and adjacent to said valve .thereabovey a lateral outlet fitting 14 is provided in said pipe, controlled by a valve 15 and adapted for connection With a length of flexible tubing 16 to the other end of which may be attached, if desired, a nozzle 17 for vaginal or reetal use. V
Preferably a suitable tube 20 'rises along 8 and is connected as indicated at 21 to the pipe 12 close below the tank.
For the purpose of draining the portions 6 and 7 of the water delivery pipe whenever desired, a short length of pipe 18 valved, as indicated at 19, connects the' part 5 of said delivery pipe with the 'drain pipe 12. i
In the use of the described apparatus, after the enlarged section 6 has been drained, the valves 4, .11, 13, 15 and' 19 are closed and the cup 9 is filled to the desired level With an antiseptic or medicina-1 solution or some other solution to be introduced into the tank 8. The valve 11 is then opened, permitting the contents of the cup 9 to discharge into the chamber or enlargement 6. This valve is now closed and the valves 4 are opened to such an extent as to admit to the pipe 5, 6, 7, a flow of water of the desired temperature.
.In rising through said pipe this water carries with it into the tank 8 the contents of the enlargement or chamber 6 and such contents are thoroughly mixed with the upward flowing water and in the tank 8. When the desired level has been established in the tank' 8, as indicated by the gauge 20, the valves 4 are closed and the 'apparatus is readyafor use. In such use, the valve 15 is opened to a desired extent and a stream of the medicated or otherwise treated water is delivered' .through the tube 16.
When use of said apparatus is `cbrpleted the valve 15 is closed and the valve 13 opened to withdraw from the tank 8 any residue of its contents. Then the valves 4 may be opened simultaneously with the valve 13 to flush the tank and connected pipes. Then after the valves 4 are again closed 'and thetank drained the valve 19 is preferably also open to drain into the pipe 12 such water as remains in the portions 6 and 7 of the delivery pipe.
When said apparatus is used for the purpose of rectal injections, the ingredients delivered to the enlargement 6 from the cup 9 may be a soap solution if desired. In using said apparatus as a surgery adjunct the tube 16 may serve the purpose of dripping the antiseptiesoIution upon an incision.
My improved apparatus is particularly suited for use in hospitals and .sanitariums, but also may be installed at little expense in the Operating rooms of surgeons, in bathrooms or other places where its functions ma be utilized. Said apparatus permits a hig degree of sanitation to be exercised, since it may be readily and thoroughly cleansed after use, and dust and dirt are prohibited from entel-ing the supply tank and its connections.
To permit ready installation or detachment from usual plumbing fittings, Ilave formed my apparatus of comparatively small sections joined together by standard unions or valve couplings.
WVhile it will be apparent that the illustrated embodiment of my invention herein disclosed is well calculated to adequately fulfill the objects and advantages primarily stated, t is to be understood that the invention is'susceptible to variation, modification and change within the spirit and scope of th subjoined claims.
What I claim is:
1. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with an elevated tank, of a water supply pipe opening into said tank, means for introducing into said pipe .a substance for delivery to said tank, a discharge pipe leading downwarly from said tank, a fitting providing for a lateral flow from said discharge pipe, a valve controlling the discharge pipe below the fitting, and a valve controlling said fitting.
2. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with an elevated tank, of a water supply pipe opening into said tank, means-for delivering a mixture of hot and cold .water under pressure to said pipe, means for introducing into said pipe a solution for mixture with the water risin through the pipe and for delivery to sai tank by said water, a discharge pipe leading downwardly from said tank, a fitting providing a later-al outlet from said discharge pipe, a valve controlling the lateral flow through said fitting, and a valve controlling said discharge pipe below said fitting. 3. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with an elevated tank, of a water supply pipe opening into said tank and 'having an enlarged portion, a
cup mounted upon and connected with said pipe above said enlarged portion, a valve controlling the connection between said cup and pipe, means for delivering water under pressu-e to said pipe, a drain pipe leading stance for delivery to the tank by the flow of water through said pipe, a valve controlling the connection ofsaid cup to said pipe, a drain pipe downwardly leading from said tank, a valved fitting in said drain pipe providing for a lateral discharge from said pipe, and a flexible tube connected to said *fitting.
5. In an `apparatus of the character de scribed the combinaton with an elevated tank, of a water supply pipe leading to said tank, means for medicating the water flowing through said pipe to the tank, a discharge pipe leading downwardly from said tank,` a flexible tube adapted for connection to 'said discharge pipe, and a gauge tube for the contents of said tank connecting with said discharge pipe below the tan'k.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand;
AJAEAN M. FULTON.
