Description

.I. M. GAS WELL 8; A. R. W0 RTH.
Crane.
Patented Oct. 5,1375.
UNITED STATES JESSE M. OASWELL AND ADDISON R. WORTH, OE DE SOTO, WISCONSIN. H
PATENT OEEIoE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CRANES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,372, dated October 5, 1875 5 application filed August 6, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JESSE M. OASWELL and ADDISON R. WORTH, of De Soto, in the county-of Vernon and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cranes, of which the following is a specification:
The drawing shows a perspective view of our improved crane.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and pointed out in the claim.
A is a post, the lower end of which is pivoted to a base-block or frame, and its upper end is pivoted to some suitable support. To the opposite sides of the upper part of the post A are securely attached the inner ends of two parallel arms, B, the outer ends of which are supported by the two parallel inclined braces O. The upper ends of the braces O are secured to the arms B neartheir outer ends, and their lower ends are secured to the lower part of the post A. Dis a Windlass, the shaft of which is pivoted to the post A and to supports attached to the post A and braces O. I prefer to arrange the Windlass D in the same vertical plane with the post A, arms B, and braces 0, so that the crane, when not in use,
may be turned against the side of the barn or other building in or near which it stands, so as to be out of the way. E is the Windlass rope or chain, one end of which is attached to and which is wound around the shaft of the Windlass D. The other end of the rope or chain E is attached to the inner end of the lever F, which is pivoted to and between the ends of the arms B. To the other end of the lever F is attached the upper end of the rope or chain G, the lower end of which is attached to the weight to be raised. Several holes are formed in the lever F to receive the pivotingbolt, so that the said lever may be adjusted to obtain -an advantage of leverage when desired.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the pivoted post A, the two parallel arms B, the two inclined braces O, the Windlass D, the Windlass rope or chain E, the pivoted lever F and the weight rope or chain G, with each other in substantially the manner herein shown and described.
