IMPROVEMENT IN GLASS-TOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,371, dated October 5, 1875; application filed September 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS CARR, of Rochester, Beaver county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Glass Paddles and Forks, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is a pusher or discharger, in combination with. a glass paddle or fork, to discharge the ware when placing it in the annealing-oven.
At the present time paddles and forks are used for transferring the Ware, when finished, into the annealing-oven; but for want of proper means for discharging the ware they are jerked and otherwise manipulated to get the ware off and lodge it in the place for it. These operations require considerable practice to learn, and always demand care on the part of the operator for preventing the breaking of the Ware, which, at this time, is very brittle, and for lodging it upright.
By means of the pusher, which I combine with the tools for handling the ware, the discharge may be effected in the easiest possible manner without any danger of misplacing or breaking the ware, the pusher being used to hold the ware while the paddle or forkis drawn from under it.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a paddle, such as is used, in handling the ware, with my improved attachment. Fig. 2 is a plan view 5 and Fig. 3 is a plan for a fork having the same attachment.
A is a paddle, and B a fork, such as are used for putting glassware into the annealing-oven. G is the pusher or discharger, which I combine with them for discharging the ware when put in the oven. The pusher has a handle, D, arranged with handle E of the tool, so as to slide along it readily for pulling the pusher back when an article of glassware is to be taken up by the tool, and pulling the paddle or fork forward when the article is to be discharged.
The contrivance by which the tool is made to slide may be arranged in any approved Way.
