UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM HENRY LAWRENCE, OF ABERDEEN, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
'WAGON-RACK.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, IVILLIAM HENRY LAWRENCE, of Aberdeen, in the Province of Saskatchewan, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lagon-Racks, of which the following is the specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wagon racks for threshing and the objects of the invention are to provide a simple and effective device by which the sheaves may be rapidly unloaded and dumped in any desired place, and such a device as may be cheaply and readily manufactured from material available in out of the way places, and it consists essentially of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specification and drawinO.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective of a wagon body having my improved rack thereon, the same being shown unloaded. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the wagon body when loaded.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the bottom, and B and C the sides of a wagon body rigidly connected together and which may be of any suitable or usual character.
In accordance with the present invention, a plurality of ropes 10 are provided, extending longitudinally of the bottom of the wagon body and all connected to the end 11 thereof. These ropes are separated from each other by distance bars 12 through which the ropes extend, a plurality of these distance bars being provided along the bottom of the wagon and extending transversely thereof.
The ropes A at the end remote from that at which they are connected to the wagon body are connected to a ring 13, which during loading is hooked over a suitable hook 14- on a frame D at the end of the wagon body, said frame comprising two uprights 15 and 16 and a cross piece 17. To the ring is also connected a single rope 18 adapted when the sheaves are loaded to extend over the load, as shown in Fig. 2. This rope 18 is provided with a ring 19. When the rack is loaded the ring 1.3 is taken oft' hook 14:. Rope 18 is then thrown back over the load as shown in Fig. 2. QO is an iron brace to hold Specification of Letters Patent.

the sides rigid. The wagon is then withdrawn to the place of unloading when the ring 19 is connected, for example, to a trip hook 23 connected to a rope 24 which may be drawn by the threshing machine or other source of power. This trip hook is formed with a pivoted hooked portion 25 adapted to be held against the body portion by the hands of the operator. It will be seen that when the operator releases the hooked portion 25, the hook will be disengaged from the ring 19. The ropes 10 and 18 may then be returned to their original position.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claim, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings, shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
llllhat I claim as my invention is:
A wagon dump rack, comprising in coinbination a wagon formed with a vertically extending frame at one end thereof, a plurality of ropes iixedly secured to the bottoni of the wagon at that end remote from said frame and adapted to extend longitudinally along the bottom of the wagon, a plurality of transversely extending distance pieces hav*- ing orifices therein adapted to maintain said ropes a suitable distance apart one from another along the whole length of the wagon bottom, the ends of said ropes at the frame end of the wagon being se cured to a ring; a hook in said frame adapted to receive said ringl and maintain the ring` and the ropes secured thereto in position during the process of loading the wagon, a single rope permanently secured to said ring and adapted to extend over the top of the load when in position; a ring on that end of said single rope remote from the end permanently secured, a hook on that end of the bottom of the wagon remote from said frame, said hook being adapted to form a means of securing said latterly mentioned ring.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM HENRY LAWRENCE.
Witnesses B. S. Rosie, J. H. MARTENS.
