MARTIN'NYSTROMI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRUNEWICK-BALKE- COLLENDER COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
PHONOGRAPH-RECORD ALBUM.
Application filed March 24, 1923. Serial No. 627,288.
My invention relates to a phonograph record album, and has for its chief object to provide a phonograph record album or the like having improved means for detachably securing a plurality of leaves in the album, the leaves being adapted to receive and hold llliOi'lOg'l'ilPl] records or the like.
Further objects of my invention will become apparent as the detail description progresses, reference being had to. the accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a phonograph record album embodying the novel features of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal section through the phonograph record album shown in Fig. 1.
8 is a longitudinal section taken on the same line as Fig. 2, but showing certain parts in changed positions, and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view illustrating a certain detail of construction.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts throughout the several views.
The reference character 10 designates a binder of the type commonly employed in the construction of phonograph record albums. The binder 10 comprises a pair of covers 11 and 12 which are hinged in the usual manner to a back 13. A pair of stiffened strips 14 and 15 projecting inwardly from the inner surface of the back 13 are secured thereto by means of an integral stiff connecting strip 16 which is fastened to the back 13 in any suitable manner. I
The binder 10 is provided with a plurality of leaves 17 each of which has a pocket adapted to receive and hold a phonograph record of the disk type, as indicated at 18.
(Fig. 2.)
To detachably secure the leaves 17 to the binder 10, I provide a plurality of pins 20, to receive which each of the strips 14 and 15 is provided with a plurality of apertures 21 registering with apertures 22 formed in the leaves 17.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, each of the pins 20 .is provided at one end thereof with a head 23 having a flattened base adapted to engage the outer surface of the strip 15,
and the other end of the pin is slotted longitudinally thereof as at 24 to provide a pair of spring members 25. Each of the spring members 25 terminates in a head 26 having a flattened base adapted to engage the outer surface of the strip 14. The two heads 26 constituting substantially a single head which is shallow so as to fit between the strip 14 and the cover 11. p I i The leaves 17 are arranged upon the cylindrical body portions 27 of the pins 20 and upon the members 25, whose outer surfaces are contiuuations of the cylindrical surface of the body portions 27.
All or any of the leaves 17 may be re moved from the binder 10 by compressing the slotted end of each of the pins 20 in turn, so that the spring members 25 occupy the positions relative to the strip 14 which are indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and then withdrawing them from engagement with the strip 14. It is apparent that when the pins 20 have been disengaged from the strip 14, any or all of the leaves 17 may be withdrawn from the binder 10 by slipping them over the slotted ends of the pins. With the construction shown and described any desired serial arrangement of the leaves 17 may be obtained, or torn or injured leaves may be replaced. or leaves from other atbums may be added to a particular album.
It will be noted that the heads 26, in which the spring members 25 terminate, are shaped to pass easily through the apertures 21 of the strip 14 when the slotted ends of the pins are compressed to permit with drawal thereof from engagement with said strip 14, as clearly shown in Fig. 4. This to prevent mutilation of the material about the apertures 21 in the strip 14.
I am aware that changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and without sacrificing the advantages of the invention and I reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall within thev scope of the following claim:
I claim:
In an album a pair of stifl covers and a back connecting said covers, a pair of stiff side strips having aligned apertures, a stifl back strip rigidly connecting said side strips, and a pin extending through the apertures in said strips for retaining leaves between said covers, said side strips being i1nn1edi-- ately adjacent said covers and said pins having heads with faces engaging the outer sides of said strips, said heads being shallow and occupying the narrow space between said covers and said side strips, said 10 pin having in one end a longitudinal slot dividing one of said headsinto two parts so that they may be forced together to permit withdrawal of said head through all of said apertures, said last mentioned head having 15 a curved outer surface to facilitate insertion of said pin through all of said apertures.
