DOLL.
Application filed June 4,
The object or" the present invention is to provide a celluloid doll formed in the representation of a baby holding: a bottle, the bottle being transparent and containing a substance resemblingmilk. in c'ombimltion With a concealed container in which the substance flows when the object is tilted or laid upon its back.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in Which- Figure l is a front elevation of a doll constructcd in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional elevation on the line 2-43, Figure l F igu re 3 is a View showing the upper portion of Figure 2, the device being tilted to indicate the operation, and
Figure d is a side elevation, partly se tion, of a modified form.
Referring to the drawings it will be seen that the derice illustrated in lligures l to inclusive consists of a hollow doll shaped figure A which is preferably made of cel luloid and consists of the representation ot a baby which shown seated. if desired, shot or pebbles may be placed Within the device so that it may serve as e rattle.
The baby-representation holds a bottle which, when the device is tilted, causes a substance to [low therefrom into a hidden container. Such an arrangement has heretofore been proposed, the substance Within the bottle being a liquid, colored White to resemble milk. It has been impossible heretofore, however, to use such an arrangement when the bottle is termed of c lluloid, bezruse celluloid is slightly porous and the liquid is gradually absorbed, evaporating upon the exterior of the bottle imperceptibly but surely. in the course of a lien Weeks the entire liquid contents of the bottle hare disappeared. it is the specific object of this invention to provide a doll with bottle, which may be entirely of celluloid, With the exception of the substance Within the bottle, and to so construct the bottle-representation that it may be held by the Wells of the ligure so that the hidden container may lie Within the head or body of the doll.
l have discovered that certain dry materials may be employed to closely resemble milk both in appearance and in action. I have also found that the flow of the substance from the bottle into the hidden con- 1927, Serial No. 198,441.
tainer can be better regulated by using the dry material than the case oi. a liquid.
form the bottle B of transparent celluloid entirely closed except for a restricted discharge outlet C which communicates with a container D. The container preferably lies'either Within the body of the doll, us in Figures 2 and 25, or in the head of the doll as in l ie'ure ll. in either case the bottle with its container may be held by the Wall of the doll.
lnstczul of the usual colored Water substance placed within the bottle l3 I employ therein a granular material ll]. This meteriel may be of such nature as to flow through the restrict d outlet intermediate the bottle and the container l), as sand flows from one section of an hourglass into the second section of the same. In other Words, the orra eiuent permits senibling subs control being o 1C6 any speed desired, the 3 increasing or decreasing the of the said discharge outlet.
It important that the granular substance be of such nature as not to form a dust or cloud upon the interior of the bottle and thereby reduce or destroy its trancparency. After study of a large number of White or semi-White substances, 1 have found that finely ground marble operative for the purpose, and that line white sand may ale-1o be used, although the letter.
not satisfactory as the ground marble because ot' its reflective properties, the ground marble being more realistic.
Having described my invention whet I claim and desire to secure by .lie'tters Patent being as tollmvs A. doll comprising a. body and head portion formed of celluloid. a transparent cel luloid bottle disposed eiterior of the body and having a projection provided with a restricted outlet, a containerhidden Within the body of the doll rind connected to said restricted outlet portion of the bottle, said bottle and container being; supported y the Walls of the doll, and dry linely ground marble Within the bottle and adapted to flow into the COIlht her when the doll is tilted from normal position, the flow being at a speed controlled by the diameter of the restricted bottle outlet.
In testimony whereof, name to this specification.
