This invention relates to nursery toys for very small children and particularly to the constructionand equipment of a hollow head member for dolls, rattles and other articles of this character.

The present invention is a further development of the moving eye rattle for which patent was obtained February 23, 1926, No. 1,574,341. r

The object of my invention is to provide a hollow head member for dolls, rattles and articles of this character, having for its equipment thezoriginal moving eyes combined with a nursing bottle of transparent material superimposed on the face of the head member, the bottle containing a quantity of milk-colored powder, sand or even fluid which may be made to flow into the interior of the head, at a point corresponding to the mouth thereof, by tilting the toy backwards to discharge the bottle and forward again to refill it.

The invention is illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my invention equipped with the moving eyes and nursing bottle partly filled with sand representing milk; Figure 2 is a substantially longitudinal sectional view of the same,-and Figure 3 is a perspective view of a toy doll carrying a nursing bottle which is arranged to discharge its contents into the childs mouth.

A further development ofmy invention comprehends the construction of a nursing bottle comprising a transparent front section 17 superimposed on the front section 12 of the head 10. The neck portion of the bottle 17 is directed into the mouth of the child and is provided with a black coating of paint from a point well towards the body of the bottle to the lips to give the appearance of the ordinary black nursing nipple 18. The portion of the front head section immediately beneath the front section of the bottle is depressed to form the other side 19 of the bottle. The side 19 follows the regular shape of the bottle until it gets just beneath the blackened nipple portion 18 of the front bottle section 17 where it drops into the head to form a substantially deep pocket 20, the purpose of the positioning of the pocket being to render it invisible from the face of the toy. Of course, the purpose of the hollow bottle is to enable the same to be filled or partially filled with white sand, powder or even liquid representing milk, the filler 21 being preferably a dry easily movable, sand which may be made to run up to the neck of the bottle and appear to enter the babys mouth through the nipple 18, but in reality merely falls into the pocket 20 where it collects until the head is tilted forwards sufficiently to cause the sand to spill out of the pocket to again collect in the fbody of the bottle. character. The operation of the device gives a strik ing likeness of a baby in the act of receiving nourishment from a nursing bottle containing an easily movable substance which will flow when the toy is simply tipped forwards or backwards.

In order that the other performance of the toy may be accompanied by a suitable noise making element I propose to enclose a few pebbles 25 within the hollow head, the pebbles causing a rattling noise When the head is tilted to move the eyes and discharge the contents of the bottle.

What I claim is:

,The herein described head member for a toy, having in combination a pair of eyes comprising transparent eye chambers and loosely disposed pupils in said chambers, a nursing bottle superimposed on the front of the head member and having a nippled neck portion disposed in the mouth of the face of the head, said bottle comprising a trans parent front section the neck end being blackened to represent a nipple, the back portion of the bottle being a depressed portion of the front of the head terminating in a pocket disposed under the blackened portion of the transparent section, and an easily movable substance to represent milk disposed in the bottle and capable of moving from the bottle to the pocket and from the latter back into the bottle, When the toy is tilted.
