This inven on e t s to mpror me in a cigarette rolling device, and consists in the novel construction hereinafter described.
An v.obiect of the invention i811) provide a 5 device which is adaptedby manual manipulation, to roll cigarettes.
Another object (of the invention is to pro.- v d a d v thk n men n d t a may be associated with atobacco pouch, and by which cigarettes may be rolled with facility without spilling the tobacco out of which the c garet es are ma e.-
Ad ditional advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description thereof, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in'which Fig. l is a plan View of a pouch with the cigarette rolling device incorporated therein. 7 Fig. 2 is a detail viewshowing theposition ofthe parts adjusted preparatory to the cigarette rolling operation.
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the first step of the operation. l
Fig. A is asimilar view .showingthe step at the termination of the actual rolling operation;
Fig. .15 shows the pants in ,a position in which the rolling operation, is about to be complete l- Fig. 6 shows the completed cigarette.
In the emb diment of th n entio illustrated in the drawing, the deviceis shown as incorporated in a pocketbook type of tobacco pouch, comprising a bag 1 having the usual hinged closure includin ed at3 and provided with ballclasps 4. The device for rolling the cigarettes includes a plate 5 supported along the longitudinal edge of one of the frames 2 within the pouch. The
0 forward end of said plate has an upwardly deflected lip 6 and is connected at its rearward end with a curved extension 7 lying beneath the edge of the frame when the pouch is open, so that it provides a support outside the pouch for conveniently supporting the pouch in the hands of the operator. The position normally assumed by the hand of the operator in operation of the device is such that the curved extension 7, with the section of the bag wall intervening, rests upon the middle finger of the right hand.
At each end of the plate 5 and adjacent to the longitudinal member of the frame are ears 8 that extend upwardly from the upper plane of the plate. Seated Within the ears is a plate member 9 whch is of a width approxi' r the frames 2pivotmately one-half the width of the plate 5. This plate ,9 has an inwardly curved extension 10 of less length than the length of the plate 9 provides a handle for the plate which is manipulated by the thumb of the operator,
If .Will be understood that the plate 9, Supported by the ears ,8, is free .to move across the surface of the plate 5. It is normally held in resilient eonl liiwtd position by a resilien c m dian 1 pr f r b y i omp i ngfe rubber band wrapped around the ends of the member 10 and connected with a permanent partof the longitudinal member .of the frame 2- Th n ma re ted Pos ti n C e r y ate i ig- 2 of. the dra g, rom which it will appear that the onter longitudir nal edge of the plate 9 lies along ,the'longitu dinal margin of the frame 2, and the forward end of the plate 9 extends upwardly slightly from'the face of the plate 5.
' In operating the device forrolling a cigaett h fir per t is ioip a e a ng t dina'l marginal edge of a. cigarette paper 12 beneath the forwardedge ofthe plate 9. The plate), is thendepressed by exerting pressure the urve memb j bye-h thumb he operator, This clampsythe marginal edge of re te rater bemee ith forwa e of, the plate'9 aridlthe face of the plate 5. The cigarette paper is then turned backwardly to the ,pesitio shown in ig- 3 of th d t i gslightly closing thefpouclh opening by bringing the frames ,t ogether, the marginal e g of t l e 5 s dep esse int P 1 1 and a qu i y o batco n ce s ry r m ing a b g 'e t s se opedur e xd y h forward edge of the plate'5 "and against the surface of the upwardly inclined sheet of cigarette paper. The frame is then opened out to position shown in Fig. 4, the forward marginal edge of the cigarette paper being turned under the forward marginal edge ofthe plate 5 enclosing the tobacco in the manner illustrated in Fig. 4. r The plate 9, clamping themarginal edge of the cigarette paper, is now moved forwardly by the thumb of the under the quantity, of tobaccoenclosed between'the plate 5 andthe interior of the sheet.
'5, and the filled cigarette paper is then removed from the edge of the plates 5 and 9 operator, which tucks the edge of the paper and sealed in the usual way, thereby producing a smooth, compact, firmly rolled cigarette, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawin I am aware that the invention may be modified in numerous particulars, and that the pouch may be omitted and thecigarette rolling device constructed as an independent unit, if desired. However, the advantage in the combination of the device with the pouch will clearly appear. 7
I do not'limit myself, therefore, to the exact construction shown and described, but
what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the class described comprising a support, aplate having free movement in respect of'said support, and a resilient connection for said plate whereby the same may be moved while in clamping engagement with a sheet of paper across the facelof said support. 2. A device'ofthe class described comprising a support for holdingaquantity of tobacco, a plate arranged in clamping and sliding engagement with said support adapted to engage a sheet of paper and roll the same around'the tobacco on said support, and means connected with said plate for yieldingly holding the same in association with said support.
A device of the class described comprising a plate for holding a quantity of tobacco, said plate having an lip-turned forward marginal edge, a second plate arranged to make clamping and sliding engagementwith said first named plate thereby toengage the margin of a sheet of paper, and roll the same around the tobacco on said first named plate,
and means connected with said second plate named plate, and a manipulative member on said second plate whereby the same may be moved into clamping engagement withsaid first named plate to hold the margin of a sheet of paper, and the second named plate moved forwardly of said first named plate to roll a sheet of paper around a quantity of tobacco supported on said first named plate.
5. The combinationwith a tobacco pouch having a pivoted frame, of a device for rolling cigarettes including a plate extending inwardly into the pouch and supported in connection with the frame, a second plate slidablv operable across said first named plate, and a resilient connection between the frame and said second named 'platewhereby said second named plate is normally held in inclined position with respect to said first named plate, said resilient connection permitting forward sliding movement of said second named plate across the face of said first named plate.
6. The combination with a tobacco pouch having a pivoted frame, of a device for rolling cigarettes including av plate extending inwardly into the pouch and supported in connection with the frame, a support in connection with said plate for holding the pouch, a second plate slidably operable across said first named plate, and a resilient connection between the frame and said second named ilate whereby said second named plate is normally held in inclined position with respect to said'first named plate, said resilient connection permitting forward sliding movement of said second named plate across the face of said first named plate.
7 A device for rolling cigarettes comprising a support, a plate movable across the face of said support, and a connection for holding said plate in assembled relation with said support and permitting free movement there of while in clamped engagement with a sheet of paper.
