PATENT BENJAMN F. BROWN, OF OATLIN, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN REIN-HOLDERS.
Specication forming part of Letters P/atent No. 167,953, dated September 21, 1875; application filed August 20, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, BENJAMIN F. BROWN, of Catlin, in the county ot' Parke and in the State otl Indiana. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein-Holders; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
vThe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a rein-holder, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a side view of my rein-holder, showing the same attached to the dashboard, and looking from the front of said board. Fig. 2 is a front view of the rein-holder. Fig. 3 is a detailed view.
My rein-holder is made in two parts, united together near their lower ends by a rivet, so as to allow one to turn acertain distance on the other. v
A is a vertical plate, having a slot, a, ex-
tending from the upper end downward for a suitable distance, and made tapering, so as to form two slightly-tapering jaws, B B. From the back ot' this plate extends a plate, A', provided with suitable fastenings b b for attaching the rein-holder to the dash-board, in the same manner as whip-sockets are usually fastened. In the lower end of the plate A is a notch, d, as shown in Fig. 3. O represents another plate of the same construction as the plate A-that is, with a slot forming two tapering jaws, D D. This plate C is pivoted to the plate A below the lower ends ofthe slots, .and to one side of the center, so that the outer plate will act as an eccentric. In the lower end of the plate O is a lug, c', projecting` into the notch d of the plate A, and said lug is smaller than said notch, so as to allow a limited movement ot' the plate O.
The reins are simply passed down between the jaws of the plates, and are held by the eccentric movement of the plate C.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters'Patent, is-
The combination of the plate A, with tapering jaws B B, and the plate C', with tapering jaws D D, eccentrically pivoted to the plate A, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing` I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of July, 1875.
BENJAMIN F. BROWN.
