UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MANUEL B. DE SILVA AND GEORGE T. BENJAMIN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-BUCKLE'S.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,093, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MANUEL .B. DE SIL- VA and GEORGE T. BENJAMIN, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Buckles; and do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a tracebuckle, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of our trace-buckle.
A represents the frame of our trace-buckle provided with a plate, B, across the frame. From each side of this plate extend upward cars a a, and between said ears is pivoted an eccentric, O, which is provided with a plate, D. From at or near the end of this plate D extends downward a straight pin, 12, which pin is-to enter the hole in the trace. The trace is passed in between the eccentric O and plate B, the plate D being turned outward. Then, by turning-the plate down on the trace the eccentric clamping the same firmly onto the plate B, and the pin b entering a hole in the trace, so that the more strain there is on the trace the tighter will the trace be clamped. The outer end of the plate D being turned outward, said plate can readily be turned to release the trace, so that the same can be lengthened or shortened at will.
We are aware that a trace-buckle provided with a cam pivoted between two ears on the frame, said cam provided with a curved tongue to enter the leather, is not new; hencewe disclaim such as our invention.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The plate D with its outer end turned up, and a straight pin, 1), formed on its under side, when said plate is used with an eccentric-piw oted roll 0, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 27th day of December, 1872.
