' Application filed June 29,
My invention relates to a toy pistol. I
The general object of my invention is to provide a pistol improved in various particulars, especially with respect to means oi the hammer to prevent the products of the explosion, when a cap is fired, from injuring the userv of the pistol, and also to insure precision and effectiveness in the means for feeding the cap strip.
The nature of my invention and its dis- -tinguishing features and advantages will hammer.
In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example the pistol I handle 10 is connected with a hammer 11 having an upwardly extending nose.12 adjacent to which is a formation at the top representing a sight. The forward extension or nose 12 extends forwardly to overlap the chamber 15 through which the cap strip passes to extend along back of said chamber 15 so that the hammer 11 will explode the 'cap against said back of said chamber. The forward extension 12 overlapping the chamber 15 prevents fire flash backward. The numeral 14 indicates the capv strip extending along the back of chamber 15 and 114 indicates the roll of the cap strip. The numeral 16 indicates the trigger of the pistol, 17 a pawl controlling the hammer 11, said pawl being pivoted at one end as at 18 to trigger 16 and pivoted as at 21 to a feed pawl 22 for feeding the cap strip 14. That end of the pawl 19 engaging hammer llis received in a notch 20 in said hammer. The feed pawl 22 for the feed strip 14 is limited in one direction by stop 23. The numeral 24 indicates a spring for the trigger 16, 25 a spring for the pawl 17 and having a coil 26 about the pin forming the pivot 21, said spring 25 having that terminal rei927. Serial No. eoaeeo,
mote from trigger 16 engaged in a notch 27 on feedpawi 22.; e
The described formation of the hammer by receiving .'the upper rearangle of the cap chamber 15 and overlapping at the top prevents injury from explosion of the cap. The assemblage of the pawl 17 and feed pawl 22 leaves said feed pawl free to function effectively unaffected by the other elements of the assemblage.
The usual gate provided at one side of toy pistols of the type towhich the inven- 'tion relates for. affording access tothe roll 1 I of caps 114, is designated in the drawing by the numeral 28 and as it corresponds with the known form of gate will be readily understood in the art without further reference thereto. Spring means have been provided for holding the-gate 28 in closed or open position by bearing against the cam flange 29. In accordancewith my invention '1 provide a novel gate and spring assemblage. A plate spring 30 is provided havmg a .U-shaped bent end 31 which end is held 1 in a depression 32 in a; transverse rib 33 on one side of the pistol. A coacting rib 34 is provided on the opposite side of the pistol and in the plane of the rib 33 so that the U-shapedend 31 of the spring 30 is held-between the ribs 33 and 34 andrestrained against displacement. The spring 30 is inclined from the U-shaped end 31 toward the opposite side of the pistol and bears against said opposite side as at 35.
The arrangement is such that the spring 30 is slightly bowed and stressed by the cam flange 29 of the gate 28. Hence said gate can be swung into the closed position shown in Figure 2 or at 90 to such position to expose the roll 114. In both positions of the gate 28 the pressure of the spring 30 against the tion. I
I would state furthermore that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment ofmy invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure flange 29 holds the gate in posifrom the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
What Iclaim is:
1. In a toy'pistol ahammer, a trigger, a pawl pivoted at one end to said trigger and having its oppositeend engaging in a the endsof the latter and adapted t0 feed said cap strip to the hammer togetherwith' a spring acting on said trigger, said spring having a membercoiled about the PIVOt'Ot the first mentioned pawl; and terminating.
in an arm engaging the sec on d men'tion ed 10 pawl; v 7
2. a toy pistol a gate swingable atone side of said pistol, a spring within the pistol having-a portion-bearing against the gate to hold it in eitherthe open or closed posi tion, said spring having a U-shaped bent end, and ribsfon" the opposite sides of the pistol" between which the said 'U'-shaped eri'd of,thespring isheld. 7
