MEMORANDUM ran.
Application filed November means of blank books or of pads of paper sheets which open similarly to books.
Both ofy these forms of memorandum blankshave objectionable featuresfwhich are overcome by the device of my invention.
My invention relates to a padofpaper 'sheets removable from and replaceablev in a cover, having allof the desirableattributes of a blankbook in that the used sheets are made a .permanent part thereof, if desired, the device yoccupying' less space upon a desk than the known paper pads havingpermanent recording means. Y
The device of my invention possesses other valuable features as will be evident upon a consideration of my specification and Vaccompanying dra-wings.
The object of'my invention is a padV of paper sheets in .which the top sheet is eX- posed for purposes of information or for recording, the top sheet when it has served its purpose being placeable atV the bottom of the pad, thu'sexposing anew top sheet, the whole being removably carried within a book cover.
In addition to thus furnishing a means of permanent record, the particular construction allows of a pad o'fperman'ent thickness, thus causing the top .and bottom elements of the cover to always be in proper parallel plane position with respect to each other,"which is not possible in those memorandum pads in which the used sheets areV removed,
The novelty and usefulness of the device of my invention yare illustrated'in the following description and explanation. 1
In the accompanying drawings ,illustrating modified formsv of thedevice vrof my invention similar parts are designated by similar numerals. y u i y Figure l isa perspective view of oneform of the device of my invention in open position.

Figure 12 is a perspective view of the'connectingrings shown in Figure 9 in open position. Y"
Figure 18 is a perspective view ofa pad of paper `sheets shown in Figure 9. The particular form of the devicel of my invention shown in yFigures 1 to 5 inclusive comprises a hinged cover Vconsisting of the bottomjmember 15 and the top member 16 made of stifl'cardboard or other suitable material; The top and bottom members are connected by the two flexible cloth, or paper, members 17 and 18, lixedly attached thereto but allowing of arspace, or passage, 19 between those portions between the bottom member 15 and the top member 16. For the sake of appearance, a cover of leather or paper 20 may be attached to and cover the entire outside of the device.
A` pad of paper sheets 21, having dates 'or other desirable printed matter thereon, 'has two perforations 22, in vone end portion thereof, `and the sheets are connected by two elongated ring members 23, 23.y For convenience of operation, the two rings 23, are 'somewhat llonger than theyheight of the pad. lhe pad has a cutout for purposes disclosed ater.
Ay binder 24, `made of aluminium or other suitable material has one end shouldered 25;
and prolonged into a` pointed member 26,'
los y to its original position.
2T of the other end portion of `the binder. The binder 24 is passed through the opening 19, around the pad 2l and within the rings 23. 23. The pointed portion 26 is then passed through the opening 27 and the whole h-eld in closed position by the portions 28, 28 of the pointed member snapping into.the small recesses 29, 29 ot the shoulder 25.
The operation oit the device is shown in Figures 7 and 8. vWhen the top sheet of the pad 2l has served iti; purposev and it is desired to place it beneath the pad, the device is opened as shown in Figure 7, the top page raised to the position and passed over the rings 23 i3 to the position B. The pad is then raised to the position shown-in Figure S, the page which is then in the positionV C is moved as D to the bottom ot' th-e pad, placed thereon and the` pad revolved back A rThe cut-ont 30 enables ready access to the top sheet of paper tor purposes of operation.
It is to be noted that in the described construction re-iill pads may be marketed in the form of the pad with the connecting rings already inserted and the binder thereon. In order to attach the pad to the cover, the binder can be passed through the opening 19 and locked around the pac.
In the modiiied form otl my device shown inv Figure 6, the binder 24 is reversed in position trom that previously described, the open ends being inserted within the opening 19 ot the coverand retained therein by the resiliency of the material from which it is made.
In the modlied 'form oit my device shown in Figures 9, 10, 11, l2 and. 13, the connecting rings are formed of two telescopic members 3l and 32 and the binder comprises two elements 33 and 34 capable ot being. placed in locked position. In the particular construction ot binder thus shown, one element 34 has. reduced pointedk end members 35, 35 having recesses 36, 36. The element 33. has its extremity sides 37 3'? bent over to produced a sliding guide :tor the members 35, 35 and has inwardly directed points 38, 38 to enter the recesses 36, 36 and maintain the two elements in locked position. In the modification thus shown, the bottom l5, and the top 16 have recesses 39, 39 and 40, 40 to receive the rings 3l-82, 551-32Y and thusallow the pad 21 to rest Hush with the inside 'faces ot the bottom and top.
In` the modificationy last described, the connecting rings and the binder are re-usable and,` hence, the revll would consist of a pad ot loose sheets LO as shown in Figure 13.l
It is also to be noted that in this modification of my device any particular sheet` can be removed from the pad without disturbing the arrangement of the other sheets.
It will be seen 'from the above that my invention comprises a pad ot memorandum, or
other, sheets ot paper within a hinged cover, so constructed and arranged that successive top sheets may be pla-ced upon the bottom ot' the pad, thus retaining the entire collection of sheets, allowing a new one for use and maintaining the whole within the cover.
It is evident that there may be variations in the device ot my invention from the particular modifications described, and hence, I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape,i number, arrangement or mate-rial of parts shown and described as these are given simply as a means tor clearly describing: the device ot my invention.`
I/Vhat I claim is l. InA av memorandumdevice, in combination, a. hinged cover, said cover having a back portion and two cover portions, arecess vvithin the back portion open at both ends thereof, ring means for connectingv the sheets ot a pad of paper,` and a binder positioned around the sheets and within the cover recess,
