Description

July 24, 1928. 1,677,989 M. J. REYNOLDS REDUCING CORSET Fileql Dec. 15, 1924 ll atented July 24, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
A CORPORATION.
CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE AS- NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT,
REDUCING COB-SET.
Application filed December 13, 1924. Serial No. 755,680.
My invention relates to an improvement in reducing corsets, more particularly to corsets specially designed for reducing the diaphragm, the object being to provide a 5 simple, comfortable and effective corset of the character described, in which the elastic, diaphragm-reducing belt may be vertically adjusted to suit the conformation and particular requirements of the individual wearer.
- lVith these ends in View, my invention consists in a corset having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings:
L Fig. 1 is an inside view of'the corset ex tended to lie fiat.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the corset, with its ends fastened and with its diaphragmreducer in position, but not under tension.
In carrying out my invention, as herein shown, my improved corset is provided with a horizontally-arranged diaphragm-reducing belt having a central-section 5 of elastic material and non-elastic end-sections 6, the free outer edges of which latter are provided with hooks 7 for engagement with eyes 8 in substantially vertical flaps 9 applied to the upper portions of the inner faces of the hip-sections 10 of the corset-body, whatever the detailed construction thereof may be. Under this construction, the reducing-belt may be easily raised or lowered with respect to the corset-body by unhoolring and rehooking its ends to meet the particular-requirements of the individual wearing the corset.
As shown, and preferably the said belt has a boned central'reinforce 11, from'which it is symmetrically tapered to its ends, so that its rounded, or arch-like, upper edge, when worn in the ordinary fashion, will rise above the upper edge of the corset-body. As shown, the lower edge of the belt is very slightly concaved from its said reinforce 11 outward, butthis is not essential, nor is the upward curvature of its upper edge essena tial, though desirable,
As herein shown, my invention is applied to a corset having elastic hip-sections 10, a non-elastic front section 12 and non-elastic back-sections 13, the said sections being pro vided with the usual straps 14 furnishing pockets for bones.
The front sections 12 are provided, as shown, with clasps 15, studs 16 and lacingeyelets 17 I Under my invention, the reducing-belt, when positioned accordin to the requirements of the wearer, is placed under sufficient tension to exert a marked effect in reducing the diaphragm.
Although applied, as shown herein, to an open-front corset of'the type patterned with particular reference to confining the hips, it is not limited in use to a corset of any particular type or structure, so long as the same is adapted to provide for the applica tion, to the inner face of its front, of a vertically-adjustable, diaphragm-reducing belt.
I claim: I
A solid-back open-front reducing-corset having a corset-body comprising a solidback section, two complementary hip sections, and two complementary front-sections, means for fastening the free edges of the said front-sections together, two flaps respectively applied to the inner face of the corset-body in substantially vertical positions near the upper edge thereof at points adjacent to the rear edges of the hip-sections thereof, a removable vertically-adjustable diaphragm-reducing belt comprising an elastic central section and non-elastic end-sections and having its upper edge symmetrically sloped downward from its center, and
fastening means for vertically adjusting the ends of the said belt to the said flaps with respect to which it is vertically adjustable.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
MICHAEL J. REYNOLDS.
