UNITEDSTATES SAWZ Application filed March 31 1926. SeriarNo; 98,714. v
This invention relates to improvements in saws and particularly to a device whereby a saw maybe maintained in a certain position when it is not in use.
The invention is useful inasmuch as it is some times diflicult to place a saw when not in use in a convenient position if a workman is on a roof of a building. Accordingly the present invention will permit the workman to hang the saw to any suitable portion of entirety by A, and
the building so that it'will be in position for service when needed. If the workman does not use a tool box, saws are liable to rust when laid upon counters or on the floor. With my invention the saw may be hung in position without the necessity of driving nails into a structure for the hanging of the same.
The present invention. is simple in construction and is exceedingly convenient to use and does not detract from the appearance of the saw.
The invention has among its objects the provision of a novel device for use in combination with saws or the like, which is simple in structure, neat in appearance and easy to manufacture and install.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel and useful provision, formation, construction, association and relative arrangement of parts, members and features, all as shown in one embodiment of the accompanying drawing,
described generally, and. finally pointed out in. the claims. a
In the drawing: a
Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of a saw incorporating the invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and showing my invention in use;
Figure 3 is a further detail of the invention, the impaling device being out of service; and,
Figure 4 is a perspective view'of the impaling device.
Corresponding parts in all the figures are designated by the same reference characters.
Referring with particularity to the drawing the improved device is designated as an which device is shown in combination with a saw B. The improved device A includes as elements members a, b, c. The element a comprises a bolt 1, threaded at one end, 2, and internally bored at 3 and screw-threaded at 4. This bolt is provided with a head 5. The element F) coinprlses a nut having a kerf portion 6 and an annular screw-threaded portion 7 adapted for screw-threaded engagement with the threads 2 of the bolt. The impaling member 0 comprises a screw-threaded body portion or base 8 having a spike portion 9 projecting from a surface thereof and which spike portlon is substantially conical in form. The surface of the base 8 adjacent the spike 1s formed with a kerf 10 and the opposite surface of the base is also formed with a kerf 11; If the means A is to be utilized in connection with a saw B the saw handle 12 as well as the blade 13 are transversely bored.
as indicated in Figures 2 and 3 at 14 and the bolt w is passed through such bore and maintained in position by the nut b, the nut and head of the bolt bearing against opposite surfaces ofthe handle 12, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The bore 3 in the bolt permits the spike 9 to either be enclosed within such bore, as shown in Figure 3 by screwthreading the base portion thereof into the screw-threads 4 of the bolt, or to have such spike portion project outwardly and beyond the head of said bolt, as indicated in Fig. 2. Thus, the spike may be exposed or not, in accordance with the desires of each user of the saw. When the spike isexposed as in Figure 2, the saw may be readily held in an elevated position by causing the spike to infpale some structure, as shown at 15 in Figure 2. Quite obviously the base portion is readily secured to the screw threads 4 of the bolt by using a screwdriver placed in the kerf 10 of the base so that the base ma be readily turned to secure the base to sue 1 screw threads.
The device is neat in appearance, and does not detract from the general appearance of may be totally enclosed within said saw handle or may be projected from said saw handle for engagement with an object.
PATENT E.
2. The combination with a saw and the threaded and whereby the same may either handle member thereof, of a bolt passed be enclosed within said bore or may be through said handle and said saw and a positioned to extend outwardly from said 10 nut for securing the bolt, said bolt being bore. 7 formed with an internal screw-threaded bore, In testimony whereof, I have signed my and a spike member received Within said name to this specification. bore, said spike member being in part screw- 7 WILLIAM H.
